update on my situation- induction emminent

Hey mamas,
B/P was bad today. We need to induce. Trying castor oil as we speak. Depending on what happens, I *may* still have the homebirth but its pretty darn iffy.

I'm at peace with it, because we did all we could do. My MW will accompany me to the hospital of our choice with the doctor she works well with, so hopefully it will be as intervention free as possible.

However, of course, we all know it means I'll get a lot of stuff I dont want. Vitamin K, eye drops, possible mag sulfate for my b/p, IV antibiotics for the GBS, etc. My DH was able to speak to an old friend who just finished doula training and she gave him tons of info about what to advocate for as well.

At this point, I just want my baby to be safe. Its freaky, but at least he/she will be in our arms soon.

Just wanted to give you a heads up. I'm gonna troll around the boards a bit to get more info on what to expect from the castor oil.

Best wishes to you all!
XOXO
Beth

Beth, I'm so sorry you are having to face this decision. Remember that just because you are in the hospital *does not* mean you have to consent to things you do not want (ie Vit K, eye ointment, etc). *You* are still the one in charge and have every right to decline procedures. Talk with your dh about what's important to the two of you b/c he made need to become the advocate if you end up on mag and feel crummy! Practice - "we don't consent to that procedure and we will be happy to sign a waiver if necessary"

Good luck with the castor oil...may it work for you and enable you to bring your little one into your arms in your home as planned!

Good luck to you Beth. No matter what happens. I'll be thinking of you and hope to read about your new baby really soon.

I hope the castor oil works and you get the homebirth you want.

Good luck either way.

MW came to the house and checked my b/p. Still high. Castor oil gave me some righteous diahrrea but not much else. We're getting ready to leave for the hospital now. My best friend says to look on the bright side, at least I've crapped everything out and will be "cleaned out" for the birth.

I'm in a surprisingly good mood despite it all. We'll get to meet our little one soon, and I feel good about doing what is safest even if I will mourn the loss of the homebirth. This kind of situation is what hospitals are for.

Please keep us in your thoughts!
XOXO
