From "City of the Beasts" by Isabel Allende, regarding a doctor sent to vaccinate tribes in the Amazon:
"She admitted that on several prevoius occasions the vaccine had arrived too late. She gave the injections, but within a few days they fell ill anyway and died by the hundreds."
But then it turns out that she's on the team of a big land developer and is injecting people with "lethal doses" of measles not with the "oh-so-safe" vaccine version.
I think I like this character more now that I know she's deliberately trying to poison people. She was incredibily annoying in her role as the "savior of those poor defenseless people who will die when we come into contact with them unless we save them with our medicine" (especially since she was fighting to go and contact them herself).
