Risk of infection from recently vaxed?

I'm sure this info is on here somewhere, but we are out of town right now and my access to a computer is limited (and very slow). I'm looking for some advice/reassurance about spending the day with a good friend of mine and her 18 month old DS who will have had a whole wack of shots the day before. My 15 month old DS is not vaxed and I don't have any of my books with me here so I don't know if there is a risk of this other child "shedding" a virus? This other child will have had the Dtap, IPV, HIB, Pnemococcal conjugate, MMR and Varicella all the day before we visit. My friend said we might have to cancel if her son is not feeling well (No kidding!!) But if she plans to go ahead with the day is there a risk to my son?

Thanks everyone!!

The MMR and Chicken pox are both shedders. None of the others are.

Poor baby! So many viruses all in one day. Expect a very sad and grumpy child. Hope she doesn't medicate on top of it.

Are you ready for your child do have CP or measles? None are tragic and personally I would not shy away from her since your son is alreday 15 mo.

On the other hand, if your son is still nursing he may not get anyting anyway even though he is exposed to all those live viruses.

I'd rather he not get anything since we are holidays and will be here for several more weeks. I'd rather have the comforts of home if we are going to be dealing with any type of illness (and be closer to our homeopath). Would the virus be different if it was from a vax as opposed to a wild version? DS is not nursing anymore, but has a pretty strong immune system.

gosh, I just came to this forum to ask this very question! A friend of mine just told me that she got the chicken pox vax for her 2 yr old bcz her DH hadn't had CP & they thought they should protect him by keeping her from getting them (why didn't he just get the vax I wonder?) Anyway, her DD shed the virus & the DH got them anyway! Then so did her 7wk old baby! So, I started wondering if this wouldn't be a good way to get my DS to contract the CP, by planning to be around a playgroup friend after they have gotten their shots! But same question, is an CP infection from an immunization shed virus be the same as a wild infection?

One other question, my friend's Dr also told her the baby will still have to have the vax bcz she is so young when she had CP. Anybody now if that is right or crazy?

thanks to all & hope I am not derailing OP's original question, Maria

IMO that is crazy for several reasons:

First of all crazy because didn't she see that the first child vaccinated shed the cp. Totally different outcome as what she wanted. She wanted to protect the family and what happened?

Secondly crazy because if she gets the second child vaccinated and that child sheds, the first child plus her dh have a good chance of getting shingles.

And crazy because the doc does not know whether the cp were wild or from the vax shedding. Nor does he know how the weakened cp mutate when in a new host. How many passages does it take to be 'wild' again? I suspect as soon as it has a new host.

Here I answered your other question:
