A little joy in my day....anyone relate?

Wow! Who knew?!

WE are swimming in illness! Snot rags everywhere! Dark purple circles under everyones eyes! No clean dishes! No clean laundry! Filthy house! I've not slept in nights! Haven't left the house in 6days! It is dangerously cold outside! Strange sysmptoms keep popping up in each of us! I've talked with our doc on the phone 4x in the last 3 days-once at 3am! Cable and internet are threatenoing to shut off cuz bills are overdue! Children are whiny, runny, poopy, rarely hungry and constantly thirsty for apple juice or BM!Nipples are feelin like they may fall off! I am about to lose it!

And then the grocery delivery guy rang the bell. He brought in his stash....2 balloons and 2 boxes of fruit snacks....the kind I never buy cuz they have food color in them.

The children are as happy as I've ever seen them! Playing with the balloons and eating their little winnie the pooh shaped fruit snacks! And I am able to type, make a pot of coffee, and brush my teeth!

AND the little snackeroos even have vit.c!!!!!!!!!!!!

I swear, it truly is the simple things in life that bring joy!

I love that. Too much. I hope you all are better. I have a little joy story to tell, too, if that's ok.

I was trying to be ref. between the 2 yr old and the 8 yr in the back seat. The 2 yr old was the instigator, but the 8 yr old was overreacting and emoting. I built an "invisable wall" between them that neither could broach. So the 8 yr old begins to make faces at the younger as I did not say the wall was not see thru.

Suddenly dd the younger starts cracking up. Just a true belly laugh, then I start laughing and the 8 yr. old starts laughing and soon we were all making faces and laughing so hard. I could barely drive.

A joyous moment I will never forget that almost was a difficult fighting moment instead. Thanks dd, We all needed that!!!

Here's mine:

A friend's 3 year old plays this great game called "boof". You pile a bunch of pillows on the floor and fall on them and shout "ahhhhhh......boof!"

We were playing "boof" tonight before bed--me, my 4 yo ds and 11 mo ds. I did "boof" first and the 11 mo giggles, pulls up to a stand, and lunges forward, saying, "ahhhhhh....bf!"

It was so adorable! He's just starting to mimic word sounds, so this was extremely special.

Then the kids played "Mommy is the boof pile" and I became the bottom piece of bread in a kid sandwich!

I love this!

DD has been terrorizing the cat recently and her new definition of gentle includes sharing toys with the cat by hitting him with them. this morning the cat got locked in the bedroom. I opened the door from the bathroom with dd in tow and the cat made a beeline towards dd as I was calling him to the other door to open it for him to leave. As he ran past me, I said, "kitty, are you stupid?"

Dd says
stoo. pid. kitty.
stoo. pid.
stoo. pid. kitty.

I had a hard time not just busting up. As disappointed as I am that stupid was her new word for the day it was very funny, and at least for me relived some of the tension I have been feeling about all the cat abuse that has been going on.

Yeah, you have to be careful about that word stupid!

We'll let dd watch the Bugs Bunny cartoons on Sunday nights -- it's the only commercial kid's TV she gets -- and both dh and I were blown away by all the Barbie dolls and fashion dolls and action figures that get advertised during the commercials. So we thoroughly brainwashed her to say "stupid toy!" every time she saw them. It was just a fun game for us, which I figured I'd explain someday when she was much older.

Well, of course one of dh's friends had to go and give her a barbie doll for Christmas. Eyes shining, she looks up at me and -- right in front of the giver -- says "Look, mommy, I got a stupid toy!!!"

Such wonderful stories

Two-year-old ds and I had a really bad day the other day - one of those where I just wanted to crawl in a hole somewhere alone. When I was just about at breaking point for the third time, he came up to me, raised his little hands in a shrugging gesture and asked, "Where's Kiss Man?" (Kiss Man and Kiss Lady is a game we play where we chase ds around the house and cover him with kisses). I said, "I don't know... have you seen him?" With that, he started smacking his little lips and leapt on me, kissing me all over my face. It was so awesome.

The other one was the other day when he asked to be picked up and gave me a HUGE hug, then grabbed my face and said "I yuv you" - the first time he ever said it without us saying it first! I started blubbering right there... okay, am blubbering now

Thanks for the reminders... this parenting thing is so worth it! Who would have ever thought that something like watching another person washing their own face for the first time would be occasion for tears?

Thanks, mamas! I needed these rays of sunshine today. DS has the stomach flu AGAIN. Poor pukey boy. Even the breastmilk comes back up.
