Slim pants and jeans that aren't $$$$?

My ds1 will be 5 in July and is a skinny boy. He can fit a 3T in the waist but the length is way too short. I know that the Children's Place usually has great deals but I can never catch any 4 slims instock except in something like almost white khakis. Old Navy and Gap have some but they are really expensive, like more than I would pay for a pair of pants for myself that would get worn for a few years. Is there any hope for my guy? His preschool graduation is coming soon and I don't want to send him in a pair of pants with a diaper pin through the back so they won't fall down!

What about the pants that have the adjustable waistband? We got ds, also super skinny, some at Target and they were reasonably priced. You might also try Lands End overstocks online. I know how challenging it is to find decently fitting pants for a skinny kid! Good luck!

I get the adjustable waist pants on ebay cheaper than I would in the store. I love the adjustable waist pants. They are the only kind my ds fits into. Oh, and during the Easter holiday, Walmart has adjustable waist dress pants for boys. Really nice navy and kacki(sp?) ones..

Oshkosh adjustable waist pants were great for ds1 when he was that age.

I'd also recommend adjustable waist pants. My skinny 3 year old wears them a lot. Also, if you have a consignment store near you, you can get some good deals. I got ds a pair of perfect condition old navy jeans for $3 at a consignment store near me just last week. Can't really count on finding the size you'll need, though.

My DS has a similar problem. Target has a bunch of pants (khakis and jeans) with the internally adjustable waist, and they've been a life saver!

JCPenney's has loads of them, and I like Old Navy's because they have the adjustable waistlines too. My 11 yr old is super slim, so she needs slim that are even adjusted slimmer.

I get a lot of hers on eBay. Great place to shop!

Find out what day your Old Navy does their price mark downs (ours is Friday) and go every week on that day to see if the pants in his size are on sale. Most of the Old Navy pants come with the adjustable waist as well as being available in slim or regular. I checked their web site and they have some cute khakis on sale for $11.99 right now.

We do Toughskins from Sears for my skinny guy. Those are his blue jeans. For sweat pants, I try to get ones with a drawstring in the waist or the kind that have the hidden elastic band with buttons that can be loosened or tightened. I've also been lucky enough to find some slims at yardsales and consignment sales. He does have a few pairs of regular pants that he needs a belt with.

I've found some Levi's slims at the consignment store (for a friend's child- my 3 yr. old has no problem with regular 4Ts). Also, my friend with the skinny kid has sewn elastic onto pants before to make them adjustable waist.

I will have to make a list of all of these places for when I go up north this summer. We live in a really small town and only have Wal-Mart, Kmart and JCPenney.

Thanks for the great and quick feedback!

This may or may not be helpful, but Old Navy lets you order online and shipping is a flat $5. They also have 90 day return policy and allow you to return items bought online to a store. So if you order a couple of sizes for your son to try, and are going to be at an Old Navy store within 90 days, you can save yourself $5 return shipping on items that don't fit. If you return by mail, you can use a pre-paid return label that they include and then they deduct $5 from your refund.

And Old Navy has slims with adjustable waist, a lifesaver for the truly slender! We can cinch up the elastic on regular pants for the girls, but then they complain about the 6" elastic tails at each hip and the pants look ridiculous. The adj. waist in slims is the only thing I'll buy them anymore.

My ds will be 5 in June and is also really skinny. I found size 4T pants at the Carter's outlet and size 3 pants at the Gap outlet with the adjustable waist that fit him. Old Navy has adjustable waist pants for the kids clothes, but not toddlers. Osh Kosh also make adjustable waist pants. They probably have Osh Kosh at JC Penney.

Target caries Levis with adjustable waists for a resonable price. I also wait for Gymboree's red dot sale because they have pants with adjustable waists as well. My DS is 3 and he can still wear his 12 month shorts. I am always on the prowl for a good cheap pair adjustable waist pants.

You know, I really like Old Navy for the fit for my 5 year old skinny boy, but boy he goes through the knees in a hurry. I'm thinking about stepping up a bit in price to another brand so I can get a bit more wear out of the jeans...

The Toughskins have reinforced knees and come in slim. We love them and fit my guy just right. And, they are not that pricey - I think around $15 a pair. Plus, they are nice, basic classic looking jeans.

same here.. my daughter is skinny & we have to do adjustable for her too.. all 4 pairs of her ON jeans had holes in the knees by the end of winter.. really ticked me off that it stayed colder longer this year

her childrens place & gymboree pants got the same amount of wear .. but no holes.. the gymboree pants looked almost new.. i bought those 3 pairs on ebay for only $2-4 more then the ON pants & they where still new with tags

I know, Walmart is Evil, but, they do sell adjustable waist band jeans, the cheap Levi's. I think the pair I bought DS were $12.

Kohl's also has the Levi's with the adjustable waist for about $15.
Levi's and Gap are the only adjustable waist pants that adjust small enough for my guy's skinny waist. I've tried them all, believe me! Children's Place, JC Penney, Macy's, Target. All fall down on him.
I hit the Gap outlet store and the sale rack and buy the pants when they get down to the $15 range. The "regular" jeans at Gap never seem to go on sale. I buy them a size bigger and he gets alot of wear out of them, so I will pay full price for a pair occasionally.

I keep hearing on MDC about Old Navy's adjustable waist pants. I have yet to see any at my local Old Navy!
