songs that make you cry - Page 7

Yay! I seem to have killed a thread! But I am resurrecting it!

Cause, on the TAO forum someone did a little random question thing and the first question was what song can you not get enough of right now. And weird enough, it's lately been The Highwayman by Cash, et al.

That's a great song. It's kinda choked me up before. I told dh I WANT that song played at my funeral. Maybe even have it on one of those little bookmark type things they hand out at funerals with prayers and such (maybe that's just a Catholic thing?).
But being a humanist, I think the lyrics to that in place of a prayer would be fantastic! Kinda a Sagan-esque thing going for it and it works on how I explain my beliefs to my kids when they ask about the life after death thing, eg energy is not created or destroyed and always being around in that way. And? : : I am a GEEK, and there are : SPACESHIPS! :

Here's a great live video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw1bHaUk1CM

And here are the lyrics:

I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
But I am still alive.

I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
around and around

I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

The Ballad of Lucy Jordan.

The morning sun touched lightly on the eyes of Lucy Jordan
In a white suburban bedroom in a white suburban town
As she lay there 'neath the covers dreaming of a thousand lovers
Till the world turned to orange and the room went spinning round

At the age of thirty-seven she realised she'd never
Ride through Paris in a sports car with the warm wind in her hair
So she let the phone keep ringing and she sat there softly singing
Little nursery rhymes she'd memorised in her daddy's easy chair

Her husband, he's off to work and the kids are off to school
And there are, oh, so many ways for her to spend the day
She could clean the house for hours or rearrange the flowers
Or run naked through the shady street screaming all the way

At the age of thirty-seven she realised she'd never
Ride through Paris in a sports car with the warm wind in her hair
So she let the phone keep ringing as she sat there softly singing
Pretty nursery rhymes she'd memorised in her daddy's easy chair

The evening sun touched gently on the eyes of Lucy Jordan
On the roof top where she climbed when all the laughter grew too loud
And she bowed and curtsied to the man who reached and offered her his hand
And he led her down to the long white car that waited past the crowd

At the age of thirty-seven she knew she'd found forever
As she rode along through Paris with the warm wind in her hair

I've posted a few times, but I just heard "Stealing Cinderella" (Chuck Wicks) on Father's Day and I LOST it. Such a good song.
