Should not read mainstream parenting mags

That is what I said to myself as I sat in the waiting room. I said to myself, "Self, you should not read mainstream parenting mags. They make you pissy."

And yet I had forgotten to bring the lovely library book I could have read, and had nothing to read at all, and there was the mainstream mag, calling me.
The cover featured an article on "When to Wean (and How)." Or something like that.

Of course I began to wonder. How awful was it? Did they recommend weaning at 6 months? A year? (!) What tactics did they recommend? How anti-bf would it be? Might the mag authors actually surprise me with some good advice?

sitting and wondering...

So finally I decided just to read the one article. How pissy could one article make me?

ya, bloody obvious. VERY pissy.

The entire article was devoted to getting your >18-month-old off a bottle. No mention of the breast at all. The author apparently honestly believed that all babies have bottles, and that "weaning" always and without exception means getting a kid to not drink from a bottle all the time.

Self, you should not read mainstream parenting mags. They make you pissy.

Very good advice. The guys I work with have been know to yank magazines away from me because they know what will set me off and don't want to hear it.

Oh, I hear you! I get even more pissed if I pick up a mainstream parenting book. I get sooo worked up I want to burn it!

I've learned to stay away too.
They are just garbage! Not worth the paper they are printed on. Giant glossy commercials for lousy corperations that push fear over empowerment and education.
Yes . . .I get a little pissy too. :

But, as we all know . . .
