Is Baking Soda ok for brushing?

Seriously, I prefer it to toothpaste and it doesnt have floride in it, does it? But is it ok? I mean, Ive heard its too abrasive adn will take off the enamel so I only use it occasionally, but my mouth feels cleaner with it than with toothpaste. Anyone have any information about it?

I never heard it was too harsh and so have used it for years to brush my teeth although we sometimes use Tom's of Maine toothpaste which is flouride free when we can find it here. We all have strong enamel so haven't concerned ourselves with whether it is too abrasive and just lightly dip the toothbrush bristles in a bit sprinkled in the palm of our hand and it seems to be plenty to do a good job.

I do it for the times your mouth gets teeth sweaters but probably too harsh for twice a day or more brushing
