She's here!

I was due May 5th, but Lily came Tuesday (April 25th)...

Homebirth went well thanks to my amazing midwives. My water was full of meconium, Lily had sticky shoulders AND she was posterior. But she's perfectly fine! Labor was only about 6 hours.

She was the exact same weight as my last one, 11lbs 8oz, 22 inches long...and I didn't tear (have I mentioned how much I love my mws? )

Wow, congrats! That is one serious sized baby for being a couple weeks 'early"!

Welcome, Lily!! And yes, you have great midwives, but how amazing are YOU!!!

I can't wait to hear the details, if you care to share. I'm curious as to how the mw's handled the meconium as I had that last time but for a variety of factors (none of them emergency, mostly because of a disorganized birth center) ended up at the hospital so I don't know what the mw's would have done and I've always wondered.

Thanks for the congrats

I delivered her side lying..I was sure I'd tear because I wasn't controlling pushing at all, just pushing like crazy

Kat, my water broke as she was crowning and they saw the meconium. There was quite a bit and it had been there a while They had me stop pushing after her head was out so they could suction. Then once she was out they used the DeLee suction more and gave her some oxygen.

I posted the whole birth story at another site if anyone's interested (it's long, hate to cut and paste here lol)

COngrats!!! What a big girl!! Hope you didn't buy to many newborn sizes. I feel so much better hearing a big baby story-mine get bigger each time and I have been really nervous about it.

BTW could you share anything your MW did to help you not tear? This baby may be bigger than the last one and I would like to be prepared.

the more I thought about it, I think laboring in water helped...got my tissues well hydrated and all. And my mws did lots of warm compresses during pushing as well as perineal support (no massage though).

I'm betting it was the compresses and pool though (I didn't birth in the pool however).

I also took fish oil throughout pg and I've heard that *might* help but I'm not sure on that one.
