Okayyyyy... so not twins after all....

we had a followup US today and today they said there is only one baby.

One big, girl baby that is already 7 lbs and has a head measuring 39 weeks... the actual measurement was 34 cm, and frankly I've already birthed two 34s, a 35, a 36 and two 39cms so her head sounds small to me! LOL

The doc did move my due date up... I started out thinking May 24, then we moved it to May 19 based on most likely date of conception, then the MW moved it to May 10/12 by LMP, and today the doc said "maybe May 10 by LMP, but I'm calling it May 5 by US."

He also said that her lips, fingers, heart, kidneys and spine all look perfect.

AS if the baby can read a calendar or cares, anyway, about the dates.. so we're set.

But at least we KNOW that we feel baby's head in the birth canal, just a little bouncy still (not firmly engaged).. she keeps putting her hands in front of her face and during the US she was sucking on the umbilical cord! She better be a good nurser, huh?

And I'm still about 7cm and 80% effaced and having really annoying prelabor contractions.

With all the good news, we're back to our original plans of a nice, couples home waterbirth.

What a roller coaster! Now if she would just arrive I feel like the Mervyn's lady "Open, Open Open" has been my mantra lately~

Hope all goes well~ At least you won't have a long labor

Warmly,
Melissa

Well that's good news too, in a way. I'm glad she looks healthy and you can have your homebirth.

Wow! I forget...did you have an u/s before or was the twins diagnosis from your MW?

She certainly sounds like a healthy girl! And I can't believe you're already 7 cm...is that normal for you? Does that mean thinks will go super fast for you?

I'm confused. How can they mistake ONE baby for TWO @ an u/s?! How crazy is that. Anyways, glad to hear your baby is nice and healthy!

Jumping in from November because I saw your initial twin post... After seeing this new discovery, I e-mailed an u/s tech friend of mine and asked how this could happen so late in the game, and she said it's really unlikely to see what they think is a second baby at this point and it not really be there. So if I were you, I'd still have the possibility in your mind that there are still two! Her exact words were "That is really bizaare!"
