You know you're frugal when...

Thread Starter
- you feel REALLY guilty if you use a whole dryer sheet at a time, rather than ripping it into thirds.

-your family's idea of something special for dinner is bread that was NOT bought on the day-old rack.

- 90% of the contents of your fridge and can cupboard are generics or homemade.

-You have rigged up a contraption for drying washed-and-reused ziploc bags.

-You buy an outfit for your child at a store like Target and pay regular price, and feel as guilty as if you'd just bought a Gucci ballgown.

Add your own! Who says frugality can't be fun!

You know you frugal when you think "dryer sheets....I haven't boughten those in years!"

yeah dryer sheets are so expensive

I don't feel guilty about buying new if its a smart purchase.
Sometimes I feel more guilty for buying a pair of pants used then having them only last 1/3 of what a new one would and then I have to go out take time and more money to buy another pair...

I think there's pennywise pound foolish.
I wont' sacrifice safety or sanitation for $.
Oprah did a thing on the bad side of reusing plastic bags, I use glass containers with glass lids.

I never thought to tear up dryer sheets- that's brilliant. I just let mine sit in the box waiting for a "special" load of laundry .
And I want to see the contraption for drying the bags.

I knew I was frugal the day I figured out just how much more toothpaste I can get out if I use a flat tool to flatten/squeeze the tube on the counter top.
But I'm really not that frugal at all.

toothpaste ?
lol I knew I was frugal when I started making mouth wash out of pepermint oil and using baking soda!

You know you're frugal when you jump for joy when it's spring clean up week.

So far, we've already gotten 3 kitchen chairs(vinyl, but I'm recovering them with upholstery) and a vinyl recliner for DH(it's fugly, but it's in almost perfect condition, and he likes it, so...at least we didn't pay money for it!)

You refuse to by the pair of jeans on clearance because they're $12. You know that you can wait it out and get them for $6.

You know your frugal when it gives you heart palpatations to see someone dry her hands on paper towels & throw it away (I keep one emergency roll around for the gross stuff...dog throwup, etc.).

How about when you get them at the thrift store for a buck? I can't remember the last time I bought myself new jeans... I think I was 16.

I also clean up dog barf with rags, and then toss the rags... we always have plenty of rags.

Salad dressing savings

I always made my own salad dressing until I was pregnant and still haven't gotten back into it. I would sneak the bought salad dressing from the fridge and put olive oil in it to make it last longer. Dh figured it out but would only complain if he saw me doing it

You know you're frugal when...

...you catch yourself having a conversation with your husband about how we might use a box or plastic container or whether we should recycle it (like "trashing" something, in our eyes)

...you are so resistant to buying chemical fertilizers that, using the same line of thinking that boiled-egg water is good for plants (which we save and water with), shouldn't bean soaking water be good, too? (it's probably great, but it stinks to high heaven!)

...life is good when you have enough eggs to have 2-3 per person for breakfast. Most of the time I have to stretch our eggs with potatoes.

...over breakfast, you have recently discussed ways to rig up a ziploc bag drying thingy

You know you're frugal when:

- you try to Freecycle an item before looking for it at a department store
- you have no problems regifting
- you make your own greeting cards and bookmarks
- you're so happy when you see there's a 50% of sale on everything at Goodwill
-you have t-shirts that are over 15 years old! I do. I still fit into them too.

I echo the PP who said she won't hesitate to spend money for sanitation or safety. I'm the same way.

My brother made one of these out of the end of a tree branch. Envision the last 8" turned on end & adhered to a base.

I actually enjoy getting gifts I don't like. Then I know I've got something on hand for someone else's b-day.
