how do I learn how to cut hair?

So dh & I have had this ongoing discussion for at least the last 5 years, . He wants me to cut his hair (and now also ds's hair) to save the expense and hassle of going to a shop to get it cut. In theory, I don't object to doing it, but I'm TERRIBLE at it. I did cut dh's hair for about a year until I got tired of him looking so bad and refused to do it anymore.

But now I have dh, ds, and another boy on the way - that's three people that will need haircuts on a regular basis and it would save us some money if I could learn how to do it so that I don't feel my "boys" look awful. Does anyone have any suggestions for learning these skills?

practice or maybe check out a book on it. I do my husbands and sons they don't look the greatest but after a few days it looks fine.

Here's a good website

Hope that helps

I do all the haircuts, but mine (and have been known to do my own a time or two).

Practice is key, watching the barber/stylist whomever cut your dh's hair once or twice will help.

Honestly dh has a really funny shape to his head/face, since I'm aware of that my cuts typically end up looking better than the pros

With my ds, I bought a set of clipers and I give him a buzz cut every few months. It usually dosn't look to bad and it grows in well. It came with an instructional video.

With dh I would just trim his hair between cuts at the barber. I would just follow what the barber did last time cutting off about 1/2 inch all over. As I got better I would do it 2 or 3 times befor it needed to be cleaned up by someone who knew what they were doing. Now I do all the haircuts. Even mine.

I cut everyone's hair here (except mine) but I've been cutting hair for close to 20 years now too.

I agree to watch the barber/stylist next time and to opt for shorter haircuts (and invest in the clippers!)

I cut dh and ds' hair with the clippers that come with the different sized attachments. Conair makes it.
