Does anyone else use an e-school? We use OHVA and love it. They use the K12 curriculum. My kids have been thriving since bringing them home. I wanted a curriculum that was already laid out and kept my accountable, so this was a great combination for us.

We use Ohdela. I think it is ok. I like getting the curriculum, and using that as a base for our studies. We have a lot of our own material. We have very limited contact with the eschool and our assigned teacher.I prefer it that way.Dh wanted ps,so I compromised with the e.

We have monthly phone conferences with our teacher. She talks with each of kids and myself. We are able to contact her at anytime if we need her for something. I would like to start incorporating a bit more of our stuff next year. This was our first year for schooling at home, so everyone had their adjustment time.

Is the OHVA, the ohio virtual academy? I've been wanting to ask someone who uses it how well they like the K12 curriculum and how user friendly the ohio virtual academy is? Do the teachers get back to you quickly and are there a lot of activities that they set up for the kids? I guess I'm afraid that it's really schoolish and takes a lot of time. Do you know how it compares to calvert's curriculum? I have heard a lot of ppl say that calvert is very schoolish, and I know some of the other ohio virtual programs use calvert, so I'm kind of interested i the ohio virtual academy, b/c they us K12.

Yes, OHVA is the Ohio Virtual Academy. I really like the curriculum and find it very easy to use the OLS (online school). Our teacher is very good about getting back to us within 24 hours (typically it is the same day for emails). I usually call her about four times a month. She calls us monthly for phone conferences with the kids and myself. They have activities happening all over the state, some areas have more than others. Parents are allowed to set up activities and usually an OHVA teacher can come to allow for kids to get credit for one of their four face-to-face meetings required for the year. My crew had all of their meetings credited by about three months into the year. You have science and history lessons online (with some book supplements) and generally have a series of worksheets you can use for reinforcement. I usually did just the assessments. You can choose how much you think your child needs to do to get the concept. I have no experience with Calvert curriculum. I have heard other people say it is visually boring, but other than that I really don't know much about it. OHVA does require your child participate in state testing b/c it is a charter school. My crew tested at the end of the year and that was all we had to do. My daughter actually had to take a reading achievement test in October as well. We have to send in three or four portfolios a year. They let you know what assignments to send in from the stuff the kids have already completed, so it isn't extra work for them. Let me know what other questions you have. I did send you an email as well because I wasn't sure how much back and forth we were able to do on MDC without getting in trouble.
