In the evening on the 26th i noticed plug and got very excited. Nothing else happened but lots of plug kept coming and started to get some loose stool.

Just before 5am on the 27th I woke up with contractions that I knew were the "real" thing. They were easy and far apart so the day started as usual, except Jay didn't go to work. At lunch time Jay took the girls in his new jeep for a special lunch and my mom came to take me out for a "labor" lunch and walk around old town Yuma.

At 1:30pm I called the midwife to see if I could come in and get checked. If she saw me in labor then later when I decided it was time to go to the hospital I could be directly admitted and avoid going to the evil triage! Since Susie was leaving the office Jay and I made a mad dash to see her. We made bets on how dilated I would be, me not wanting to be disappointed said 4 cm and Jay was rooting for me and said 5cm.(I had been 2 cm 2 weeks prior). To our and my midwifes shock I was 9 cm and 100% effaced!! Bad news was his head wasn't engaged at all. She worried that if my water spontaneously broke his cord would prolapse. She wanted us to go strait to the hospital and get the back up doctor "involved". I was so scared i started crying. But Dh was great and calmed me and told me everything was fine. Without him at this point i would have lost it. Flash backs from things going wrong before flashed through my mind. Anyway we ran home got our bags and went strait to the hospital. The midwife was suprised we actually listened to her and came since with the twins last time i wouldnt go in to the hospital for hours and hours. This time i am glad i did. The midwife and back up doctor decided to pin prick the bag of waters in order to control the flow and get his head down safetly. Luckily it all went smoothly and we were good to go. I had DH call my mom and doula to get to the hospital NOW. Labor picked up for the first time and i got on the toilet. WOW, thats when it got intence. Soon i was pushy. Since there had been miconium (sp?) in the waters they were talking about how NICU "had" to be there and he would be taken imediately away to be suctioned. My midwife thank goodness mentioned to me that we could deny them being there since research showed there was so reason to panic and with out the NICU docs there we could do what we wanted. UH, YEAH I DONT WANT THEM THERE. We headed to bed and it hurt like hell to be checked. At this point i just wanted to be comfortable. My doula and Dh knew i wanted to be in the squatting position but it doesnt feel good getting into it!! luckily they forced me up and that got him right to the "front door" # or 4 pushes and he was out. I was truely amazed at how much easier pushing was while squatting. They layed him on my chest and since he was SCREAMING they didnt even suction him. They waited till the cord stopped pulsating and then DH got to cut it and take him to be weighed while i worked on getting the placenta out and got cleaned up. It ended up i was at the hospital for only 2 hours before he came at 5:05pm He is a perfect 8lbs and 20 inches. It was so wonderful to share this blessed event with Jay. I truely don't know how i did it without him before. ( He was deployed with the Marines for all three of our girls)

24 hours later we are home and well. His sisters are in love with their baby brother!! They made him a birthday cake and even helped him blow out the candle!

He nurses literally 24/7. and is awake all the time. my milk hasnt come in yet and i am just hoping it does soon because he never wants to detach!!! I forgot how the left over belly is still so big and painful. the after pains are worse then i remember but definatly better then c-section pains.

What helps your milk come in?? what are you guys doing to help recovery?? i have been drinking tea and will do a sitz bath tonight.

YAY! Welcome Jack!

and I have the exact same questions. Milena is nursing like a fiend, and my milk hasnt come in yet.

I read on the breastfeeding board that dark beer (guinness, etc.) will help bring in the milk faster. Any thoughts?

I had a glass of stout today to see if it would help (not while nursing of course, but during her long nap of the day when I had 5 hours to metabolize it).

XOXO

Congratulations on your baby boy! I love the name!!

As far as milk coming in, mine came earlier than I expected. Baby was born late afternoon on Monday, and by Wednesday night, I was feeling very full of milk, some swelling, but not as bad as with the previous babies. I think his nursing non-stop (just like your boy!) helped bring it in earlier,. Other than that, I just drank lots and lots of water during those first days.
