Matthew Paul is here! Very Very brief update.

Hi to all and I'm sorry I haven't updated stickies and replied to emails.

Nobody can really say when my labor started, but after almost 4 days of intermittant labor, Matthew Paul arrived on Wed Apr 26, 2006 at 8:48pm. He is (or was at birth) 5lb 6 oz and 17.5 inches and has READ THE BOOK on being a preemie at 35 weeks gd. Matthew is perfect and in good health, but doesn't know when he is hungry and therefore must be fed every 3 hours regardless of whether he appears to want food or not. He will take a VERY long time to even get down 30ccs and his blood sugar was crashing without a supplement from the hospital (we did try to exclusively bf at first, but my body just hasn't gotten the milk yet to stabalize him on its own.

Because of our high commitment level of being the only ones to feed him, even if it had to be formula (more on that freakin fiasco later) and our VERY ADAMANT desire to have Matt eventually become an on demand exclusive BF baby, we were unprecedently allowed to sleep in the glorified breastfeeding room (read about the size of a closet) after I was discharged last night. DH and I have been the only ones feeding Matt since very shortly after he was born.

Matt was just discharged at about 2pm today so we've only had him home a short while. We're doing fine, but my long exhausting NATURAL labor has taken its toll on me. I promise to A) read all your posts, B) reply to them, C) update our sticky, much better VERY soon, but hope you understand I'm not sure if that will be tomorrow or the next day.

The upshot is, he is gorgeous, healthy, and on his way to becomming the naturally fed baby we want. He's just going to need to work harder until one day it becomes old hat to him to eat!

I know through our commitment and this great support team at mothering and in our lives this will be very soon. Thanks for the support, and understanding that I need to put him first, what mothering is all about!

Blessings to all!
Love,
Cindycaz.

Congratulations and Welcome Matthew! My dd was a 35 weeker and it is a bit of a tough one. It is like they are somewhere between a preemie and a full term baby. Just know that everything will work out fine and in a few years you will look at your big preschooler and wonder how they could have ever been so small

Take Care,

you're all doing just fine I'm sure; ours was 34 weeks born and she also was on a schedule - I was expressing as much milk as possible (the first few days I had to use a syringe to collect all the little drops of cholustrum I could!) plus getting supplemented and BF when I could be at the NICU - little premies take a lot of energy to suck, so using a expressed milk if you can might be better in terms of keeping the cals for the baby so that he can gain weight (that's what I was advised, and seems to have helped); bless you two and enjoy the Baby Moon - the 3 hour schedule is a blessing though, as you will have some sense of a schedule for yourself this way too (that's what I found out - Emma's still on hers as she wakes hungry approx every 3 hours or so and almost exactly to schedule still as to what she was on with the nurses, but on her own hungry belly clock)

WOW. You are one bad ass mama...
congrats on having the ovaries to parent your baby even while he's in the NICU.

Big hugs and love to the little one. He'll be outta the slammer soon, and home with his wonderful family!

You, please don't worry about the boards and posts...you've got a lot on your plate.

Many congratulations Cindy! Happy, Happy Birthday little Matthew! : You share a birthday with my little guy. For some reason Cindy I just knew you were off birthing your baby. I just had a feeling. Hmmm... Happy babymoon mama! And I'm sorry you had to contend with hospital hoopla. : I can't wait to hear the birth story and see some pics!
