I am very stressed out about sleep issues for both DD1 (almost 3)and DD2 (4 months). I'm not sure what kind of advice or support I'm looking for, I guess anything to keep me going.

Where can I start? DD1 had lots of sleep issues and still does. We have her routine at night and she usually stays asleep all night in her room (finally), but she does talk in her sleep a lot. She also fights naps, I bribe her now to take a nap, I know it's awful! If she naps it's around 1pm and she's up around 3pm. On the days she naps she's not ready for bed until 8 or 8:30. If she doesn't nap she's in bed by 7:15. She wakes anywhere from 6-7pm usually on the earlier side. She's a wreck by 3 or 4pm if she' doesn't nap but I don't usually let her by then. And, of course I get upset if we have afternoon plans b/c I can't take her in the car if she hasn't napped b/c she falls asleep.

So, I'm so affected by DD1's sleep issues that I feel the need to make sure DD2 is a good sleeper. She was for her 1st 4 months and last week she started nightwaking several times again (I know she needs to eat, etc.) but she did go from 10 hours to all of a sudden waking again. I nurse her whenever she gets up but she's not settling easily.

We live in a small crowded 2BR apt. DD2 is outgrowing her small bassinet and the crib does not fit in our room. We do not want to cosleep for various reasons, so we set up her crib in DD1's room which they will now share. I feel the need to "teach" DD2 how to sleep, because it will make life easier for all of us. I know it may sound selfish but I'm really feeling it b/c my reality is that I can't spend as much time as I am getting DD2 to sleep. Of course don't want to CIO at any point either. Sometimes I feel that the time it is taking now to get her to nap and sleep at night is taking away from time with DD1. I just spent the last hour trying to get DD#2 to take a nap. DD1 is old enough to understand to stay in the living room for a few mintues but not much longer. I even use the TV and snacks and set her up with a project or toy, but she's too young to not keep coming in the bedroom while I'm nursing/rocking the baby. I've tried to let her stay in the bedroom with her doll or something quiet, but she never stays quiet enough. Then, as it takes longer and longer to get her to sleep DD2 gets restless and of course can't stay quiet for too long and then needs something, etc. I'm loosing my patience.

So when they share a room, the nighttime routine and wakings will be another stressful thing, how will I prevent them from waking each other up?

I'm not sure where I"m going with this now, but DD is crying so have to go....
any support would be appreciated!
