Does any one know if you need to take extra folic acid when nursing? I am currently taking a multivitamin with 200um and also a 400um suppliment. I know 400 is the reccomended ammount so I figure I probably am taking enough. But my dd has a dimple on her spine which makes me wonder if maybe I was taking enough with her?

I always thought we were suppose to take 800mcg of folic acid? My mom is a nurse and suggests taking that much for any woman. I take a multivitamin and an extra 800 mcg a day. I did this before I conceived DD and she came out without any issues.

I was taking a 1000mcg at least before I had DD. you can get a RX for it. or you can just take more over the counter I dont think you can OD on folic acid. Its vary good for you.

you should google it to be sure.

Could I be added on the list for Waiting to O?

DH and I are going to have our first night alone in almost 2 years at the end of this month. Hopefully this will be the ticket we need

I think the 800 mcg is a good recommendation, that's what is in my prenatal vit. Do you need more if your nursing and TTC?

So I've been spotting since yesterday. This morning I went #2 and had a whole toliet paper of blood and tissue and now I have a bit of cramping. I'm on CD 18. AF normally comes around CD 30. It seems a bit early for implantation spotting since with DD I spotted for about 4 days starting a week before AF was due. I also had cramping as well and I just started having a bit of cramping.
So what do you think? Could it be? I'm wishfully hoping!

Hi- Sorry I haven't cought up with the thread this month, but go ahead and move me to the TWW. I think we timed bd very well this month so I'm hopefull!

Don't know how many of us remember Kristeremy from last month, but today I saw she had lost the baby. I'm sure she'd appreciate any hugs and well wishes we have.

Oh that's sad.

Does anyone know if there is a greater risk of miscarriage for nursing pregnant women? I mean, I've read several places that there is no indication, but it seems like I hear of it happening a lot more from nursing mothers. My mother was shocked when I told her I would continue to nurse if I become pregnant.

Good question...I've had 2 mc since having ds. I've heard so many people say it's not bad...then again, maybe we hear about nursing mamas having problems b/c we're all on this site!

AF is due on the 30th but I'm really hoping she'll hold off (for good really!) since I O'd late...think that was the issue with last cycle. Oh Lord let this be it!!!

LOL! I had the same thought, that I'm just reading all the stories because all the nursing mamas are here! It still worries me though. I know that if I become pregnant that I'll worry about nursing, even if there is no risk, I'll still worry. And should I have a miscarriage I probably wouldn't be able to stop thinking that it was because of nursing.

But then, there are sooo many women on here who have nursed through pregnancy and are now tandem nursing. Who knows!

I'm still waiting to ovulate. This is my 2nd month ttc and I think I really must have a short luteal phase. :

Oh that's horrible.

I don't think nursing causes it though. I know so many women who carry to full term while nursing through LLL. Though sometimes I wonder if progesterone is linked with the miscarriages. THis is why I am so hesitant to resort to progesterone cream because I know that if the level dips too low that can cause mc.

Thanks so much for your reply, rozzie'sma. I am not charting, per se, but I am trying to pay attention to some signs of fertility (CM, CP). I haven't been taking my temp because I don't get 5 consecutive hrs of sleep. Do you happen to know how much the number of hours of sleep affects temps? I would be willing to try if it would be accurate.
My ewcm typically appears about 17-18 days before af. Does that seem like a leutal phase issue?...hmmm... I can't figure it out.
Any insight is appreciated.

I know to little sleep can artificially raise BBT but I am not sure by how much. I do know that you only need 3 hours of sleep to get an accurate BBT, not 5 so maybe that would be more feasible.

I'm a little stumped too. Can the leutal phase be too long??

I think that I might start taking my temp anyway, just to see. If it doesn't work - oh well - nothing lost.

And yes - I ofetn do get 3 hrs in a row so hopefully it will work!

I got my first positive OPK today! It was a tad bit lighter than the test line so I waited a couple more hours and took another and it was darker than the test line. It's kind of exciting because I've never used these before.
