I'll preface this that these are NOT the recommended circumstances for going into a homebirth..
Friday, my 2-year old started puking. Then got diarrhea.
Saturday morning, my DH caught it.
Sunday morning, he woke me up every hour on the hour with projectile vomiting. Nice.
Sunday morning at 5:30, I found myself praying to the porcelain god, and then up until about 8 a.m. I tried to get some sleep, but there's nothing like periodic emergency dashes to the toilet when you're 39 weeks pregnant. None of us could even keep water in. By this time, my back is aching and my skin is aching and my muscles all ache. I am having some contractions, but I figure that they're not really as much as they seem, and that it's my general achiness that makes them seem worse.
By about 3:00 I can't sleep through them. They are really getting my attention. I call my mom and complain that it's not FAIR, because I can handle labor, and I can handle sick, but both together? I hope labor stops. I have heard all the home remedies for STARTING labor, but none for telling it to shove off until I feel better.
I should mention that NOTHING in our house has been cleaned for about 3 days, due to everyone feeling like crap. The dishes have spilled from sink to counter to stove and there are clothes and toys all over the place...
Around 5-6 I try getting in the tub. The ctx hurt a tiny bit less but are still there. I get out from the tub, have a little bit of bloody show. I tell DH that I am sorry he doesn't feel good but maybe he should think about cleaning up. He springs into a panic, cleaning, while I have to bend over the couch for each contraction. I call the MW and call my mom. My mom does not believe I'm in labor. (Neither do I, completely..)
My mw's apprentice arrives and checks to make sure the baby is head down. She confirms to me that he is, then calls Ivy to tell her she doesn't feel any cervix...Ivy doesn't believe her.
I want to push.
Ivy gets here and checks me...I am completely dilated! This about 7:00. I want to push, I do push. Ivy and Laura are rushing to get the birthing area laid out. They warn that if I push on the bed I will have water all over the place. The birth area is set up and I climb down...I try pushing on my knees a little and then switch to a semi-sitting position.
I don't know how long I pushed....not tooo long. First time my water broke, then next thing I know baby is coming out. He was born around 7:35 pm.
We haven't named him yet, but he is fat and healthy...21" and 8 lbs 9 oz. He latches right on to nurse and has a good strong suck. (My first DS had the hardest time nursing, so this is a relief.)
I feel pretty good, a few tiny tears (labial tears are a b*#&) and good and crampy. We are just blown away, I don't think the reality of having another baby had completely sunk in, let alone having one so FAST.
