so: how goes the PIO? I have these humongous 22G 1.5" needles that scare me. Do you change to a smaller gauge for injection? Is it really as bad as they say?

Megan, did they give you pain meds for post-retrieval? Are you a couch potato?

I'm feeling more comfortable with transferring 3, given that this is a 3-day transfer. Thanks so much for the input!

A little advice on the PIO...

We used an 18 G needle to draw up the drug and then switched back to the 22G. (After you see the 18 G...you will be happy to use the 22!)

Have your doc/nurse draw circles where the injection site is...it helps eliminate some of the nerves and takes the "guess work" out for your DH.

While standing, take your weight off the leg on the side of the injection.

Have DH GO SLOW when actually injecting. I noticed that when my DH forced the oil in faster, it hurt a lot more. Didn't feel much pain when he went slow.

After the injection is done, have DH rub the spot to help the oil disolve (otherwise you will end up getting a lumpy butt by the time injections are done).

Apply a hot pack to the spot and make sure you move around for a few minutes.

It gets better with time, but you will probaby get some bruising. The worst pain I had with it was the feeling of a charlie horse in my rear. It's all worth it in the end!

Leslie... Jenn and Brenda gave you all the good advice. Also, make sure the PIO is warm.. have your injector hold the syringe in their hand for a few mins (while you ice) before injecting. I laid down for all of them and only one or two of them hurt.

Cool! My name was pretty popular just a few years ago, but I'm glad it is now waning in popularity. I like my name.

Leslie: They gave me some pain reliever in my IV bag, which they had me finish up before I went home yesterday. After that it was just Motrin, but only for yesterday -- none allowed today or tomorrow in preparation for the transfer.

I heard from the nurse this afternoon about my 28 eggs. Of those, 24 were mature and I now have 18 embies growing away! I told DH if he ever had a dream of having 19 children, now is his chance! The other moms at school say I can now have my own Montessori class!

So my transfer is Thursday at 10:30 a.m. I am so excited!!!!

I had my first PIO injection tonight and it wasn't too bad. I'm glad I read your post, Brenda, about changing the needle. DH was coming at me with that big 22G and I had him change it to 30!

Is everyone also taking Medrol and Doxycycline?

I just heard from our fertility clinic that they were able to freeze 4 of our embies!

If this transfer doesn't work, what is the procedure for frozen transfer? Anybody been there?

hey Jenn, that's great news!! I haven't been there, but I can't wait to hear about it...

...because this morning I had 14 eggs retrieved!!

then I came home and slept for 3 hours. I'm feeling better than I expected to. the nurses were absolute angels and I simply adore the anesthesiologist. I was a super nervous Nelly so as soon as the IV was in she gave me The Cocktail. yum. didn't feel a thing, don't remember a thing.

thnx for the great PIO info!! I start tomorrow. Megan ~ I started the antibiotics yesterday and will start the Medrol today. Any new news on your village/classroom?

what is the procedure for frozen transfer? Anybody been there?


With my frozen transfer it was similar to a regular ivf without the egg producing meds. I still did bcp and lupron followed by progesterone and estrogen. Instead of a transfer after retrivial the transfer was decided by your uterine lining. If you'd like more details I'll post in more detail.

I don't remember who had 28 eggs but thats great. My two retrivials were 24 the first time and 32 the second.

Congratulations on your 14!!! That is fantastic!!!!!!!!! So are you having your transfer Saturday?

My village is still cooking away. Two of my little embies will be going to their new home inside me tomorrow morning! I hope they like it there. :

I'm taking it as a very good sign that I have the same # of eggs as Korin!

Megan~ how'd it go? yep, my transfer is Saturday.

Jenn~ I can imagine how hard the wait is....I'm going nuts just waiting for the fertilization report.

? I've been instructed to be a total couch potato after transfer. Went out and rented 5 movies, bought lots of magazines. Does this mean bedrest literally, or just nothing strenuous? curious what you all were told & did/are doing.

I was on 36 hours of strict bedrest... basically I could sit halfway up, and go to the bathroom. Had to sleep in the guest bed, cause they wouldn't let me go upstairs. Then they had me stay home from work for 3 more days since my work involves hard work... adjusting. Movies, knitting, bad tv, and a few good friends got me through it.

Here I am! The doctor was "very impressed " with my eggs amd embryos. They have 8 frozen and the rest they will keep growing and then freeze.

So my two little embies are safe and cozy inside me. We even have a photo of them that I can't stop looking at! DH has named them Marlin Jr. and Coral Jr. (from Finding Nemo when looking at all their eggs Marlin says, "Okay, this half are Marlin Jr., and the other half are Coral Jr.").

The nurse told me today to avoid stairs (but our only bathroom is upstairs, so I can go up only for that), don't lift anything over 20 lbs., I can sit on the couch or in a chair at the table, but to stay down otherwise. She said that tomorrow I can be slightly more active, but to still remain pretty inactive.

In the meantime, my cousin had a baby girl this morning at 4:15 a.m.! She was 9 pounds 1 ounce, and is named Sharla Elizabelle.
