Your wish list from publishers...

A friend of mine works for a major book publishing company who is taking an interest in homeschooling. What subjects/titles/whatever do you think are missing from the homeschooling selection right now?

i don't look for 'educational' homeschooling titles per se, as i mostly just read whatever is available tailored to anyone who wishes to learn, but there is a gap is in children's books presenting homeschooling as a norm. you know, 'max goes to the farm' which isn't ABOUT homeschooling, but just happens to have a homeschooling protagonist or character.

Sweet imaginative math stories (think Waldorf math gnomes or Nomawapa).

As TigerTail said, more children's books where the kids just happen to homeschool.

Also, secular Latin or Greek curricula for pre-high school kids. Trust me, there is a market -- people are trying to do Classical Ed but don't want to memorize prayers or read the Bible in order to learn the classical languages.

oh, yeah. i've got an old latin grammar in the attic, i don't want that to be my only resource.

ps at barnesandnoble.com, they are having a free course on writing children's books right now. maybe some of us need to write those books. (i'm taking another course right now or i'd check it out!)

Ditto on the request for books (fiction or non - eh, mostly fiction) about kids who just happen to be homeschoolers (as opposed to books explaining homeschooling to others).

Yeah, I agree with TigerTail--books with homeschooled characters.

If you write them, we will buy...

Wow - I was just looking through all their course offerings - lots of great stuff! I didn't realize Linda Dobson currently has a course there about homeschooling basics! How cool!

Ditto what TigerTail said!

And, books on unschooling, and "free" schools (aka Sudbury-type).

"Fly on the wall" type books like "A PAtchwork of Days" by Nancy Lande. I found these the most helpful when I was considering HSing
