Toys - Page 2

I think my kid is broken. Or we're not appropriately crunchy enough or something. We have playsilks. They don't get used much more than any other cloths.

That's all I have to say about that.

That cracked me up! Ay first my son just danced along with me with the playsilk...but now he uses it for quite a few things. I, too, wondered what the silk craze was all about, though.

We have a big basket of fabrics - not just silks, but all kinds of fabrics. There are so many cool kinds out there that you can imagine with. You know those ones that are covered with little strings hanging off of them - they are kind of soft? Well, they make great snow, grass, sunsets, or sunrises - a good mottled brown fabric makes a great mud puddle for piggies, etc. Just go to the fabric store with your kids and use your imagination and buy 1/4 yard pieces.

My 3.5 year old DD has a bunch of little stuffed animal kitties - about 12 and a "Mommy" cat. : : : : : : : : : : : : :

They live in a basket. Those kitties get played with constantly. Everything revolves around the cats. What do they want to do today? Can we make some little toys for the cats? The cats all want bunny ears - so we make them out of construction paper. The cats need Valentines - so we make hearts for each cat. The kitties want to climb trees. They need food. They need soft little beds. They each need a pillow. The list goes on and on. She LOVES those kitties!

Let's see, dd (7)is playing with a piece of string (just made the "broom"), ds (4) just got done playing with my hair (using a comb and an old papaya enzyme bottle for lotion), ds (14) still plays with legos (all do) and anything electronic.

The children have free access to outside, 2 dogs, 10 chickens, and balls. OH they use the patio chairs for forts ect. And 2 swings. They have a few toys, plush dolls, small cars/trucks, some pieces of fabric, books, and their biggest toy/tool...their imaginations. I don't think more is better, I think it can be overwhelming. I know kids that have allllllllll this stuff and no real appreciation for it, stuff gets broken on purpose for the sake of breaking it ect.

Reececcup... You made me feel better! ta

I know a few kids who have about three of everything and they are really bad kids. Not saying that all kids who have everything are bad kids but I agree that more isnt better. Mine all have bikes and stuff so.... thanks for lending a bit of perspective!

my kids favorite/most used toys are some you mentioned:
legos
blocks
dolls

After these come just a few more:
plastic animals, dinosaurs, sea creatures
various matchbox cars/vehicles
bug jars
things for digging
playsilkk/scarves
balls
CARDBOARD BOXES-seriously the best toy on earth!

Honestly, these are the main things they play with other than craft supplies and games. I could get rid of all the others and they wouldn't miss em

no problem. Sometimes we have to be reminded what is right there in front of our noses In this day of "more is better" mentality it's hard not to get caught up in that way of thinking. I'm greatful my kids love using their minds for entertainment. I know I did growing up and I know that where ever I am, no matter how little there is to do, I have my imagination to entertain me and in turn they have theirs. The kids that have soooooo much that I know, frequently complian about how bored they are.

The kids just spent a good hour just playing with some white goo *homemade 1:1 ratio white glue and liquid starch, we've had this same batch for2 months now, just add more liquid starch when it starts to get sticky* pretending all sorts of funny things. Who needs store bought crap when they can make their own toys and have a blast playing with them.

3 1/2 year old never really been into toys.

right now her favourites are

- rocks
- blocks
- sprinklers
- mud (yeah it is meant to be springn but its more like summer)
- some dolls
- rubber bands
- leather strings
- beading (only becaue i just started)
- scissors and some art supplies (esp. if mommy is using them)
- glue
- clothespin
- gardening - she now has quite a cactus collection
and household chores

i moved a few months ago. gave away 90% of her toys. have 10% in teh closet and she doesnt miss them or ask about them. right now she is into blocks.

what actually would really work for us is a toy library. i have looked and unfortunatlely none here. she is the type who loves toys exactly for a couple of days. once she figured it out - she loses interest
