Wow, I was really cautious with our reel mower around kids. One advantage was with older kids--we let the 11 and 13 yo living with us take turns mowing, after explaining the safety issues.
They can still fling debris up, but not with the speed of a gas mower. The blades are much more of an issue since they are much more enticing and less "scary" than the hidden, loud blades on a gas mower. I always though our reel mower should have some sort of sover over the spinning blade assemply.
ITA though on the electric being like vacuuming the lawn.

No particular reason - it just tweaks me out. I've been thinking that if I had one of these I could do our very small, city yard myself...
. I think it's the perfect complement to a reel mower.
