small for gestational age question (long)

Hi, I'm an occasional reader but I've never posted before. I am 36 weeks pregnant (due May 26) with my first baby. Up until recently I've had a totally normal pregnancy with no complications, unusual things, etc. For the last few appointments, my midwives (group practice associated with a birth center) have been concerned that I'm measuring small, and at the last appointment we did an ultrasound and non-stress test because they were concerned about growth/size. The ultrasound showed that amnio fluid was good, and that the baby was measuring 35 weeks in the head and legs, but 33 weeks in the belly. (so was asymmetrical). They thought this was mildly concerning and now I'm doing ultrasounds and non-stress tests twice a week. Everything except this measurement was reassuring, baby's heart rate was fine, my bp is fine, baby's movement and reactions were good.

I think that the baby is doing well, but I'm concerned that they are going to start recommending an early induction because they are worried that the baby is not getting enough nourishment (this is what they told me would be "worst case scenario" to deal with the problem). I've gained 30 lbs. total in the pregnancy and feel like I eat alot, and am pretty conscientious about eating well, but have had trouble feeling like I'm putting on weight or "looking pregnant". (I started the pregnancy about 10 lbs. under my normal weight because I had been training for a triathalon).

Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this? Is there anything I can do/avoid doing to improve the baby's growth? Do you think I should be concerned? My body is telling that things are fine, and I really want a natural brith on my body's own schedule, but of course I mostly want a healthy baby. Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You said it's your first so you have no others to compare to... but look at your family.

I just had a u/s at 38 w and the baby measured 39 weeks for the head but only 36 weeks for the rest. But *shrug* my kids are all shorter than their peers and have big heads.

Look at your genetics...

BTW I've only gained 3 lbs over pre-preg weight but baby's estimated weight was 7 lbs 1 oz at 38 weeks u/s. I was 25 lbs overweight to start with though, and I'm not anymore... I've melted from a size 10 last fall to size 6 maternity now, I can't wait to see what size I wear this summer. LOL
