Anyone read "The Omnivore's Dilemma"?

The author was featured on NPR recently. It makes me never want to eat meat, or anything else from a grocery store, again!!

Not yet. I'm hold #4 of 22 at my library. Guess lots of people heard the author on NPR!

I was already buying my meat from local grass-fed sources, but he covered some stuff that was new to me on the radio, so I'm looking forward to reading it. I'm subscribing to this thread because I'd love to hear reviews from anyone who *has* read it already.

I'm #91 of 319 holds at my library. But there are 62 copies, so I'm not too worried

Oh wow!!! Please post something when you get started, even before you're finished with it if you want! I would LOVE to discuss this book with others who have read it!! I'm about 3/4 done myself.

I requested a copy from the publisher to review for our local alternative paper. I hope they send it soon - otherwise I'll have to get on my library's hold list.

i heard the interview with the author on npr - very compelling!

i need to finish some writing before i read "for fun," though - hopefully i'll be able to read it within a week or two.

OK! I've got the book!

I'm about 1/4 throught it, so not too far yet. It's a totally engaging book. Pollan takes what could be a dry subject and writes a book you don't want to put down.

I will never look at a field of corn the same way again! (And I see lots of corn fields around here.) So far, I haven't run across anything that will change my habits drasically. I already try to avoid high fructose corn syrup when possible, and I buy local grass fed beef and local free range chicken and eggs. I'll probably become even more vigilant about the hfc with the kids, and try to limit even the "healthy" processed food more. But I'm the kind of person who likes knowing all the details, even if I already know the basic message. I'm really enjoying the book!
