Ummm this thread had me thinking that Samara may be....what's a nice way to put it??? Pleasantly plump? Big boned? LOL. I'm not sure what's considered average, but Samara was 15 lbs 14 oz 2weeks ago, at 4 months. But she was a chunker at birth, at 9lbs 14 oz. My first Dd was petite, my Ds was average, and Samara....she's our chunk a lunk.

Supplement?? I doubt my DS is even 12 lbs. at just 4 mos old.

Does everyone here do well-baby checks? I've always done them with my babies, but haven't even thought about it with Greyson.

please ignore your very ignorant doctor

at 4 months sophie was about 10lbs 8ozs my health visitor told me to take her back to be weighed again in a few weeks and to make sure i got plenty to eat and drink and as much rest as i could manage while looking after 3 children

it turns out i was getting distracted during sophies feed and she wasnt reaching the hindmilk as she wasnt allowed to feed long enough before i went to do something. now i make sure she gets to keep going till she says shes had enough

she has gone from being below the 0.4 line to back to just below the 2nd!

but she has very chubby cheeks, a double chin and very plump thighs.

she is bright and alert and very interactive.

doctors forget that there is so much more to thriving than growing to look like the size of a house :eyeroll

yay!!!! that's great! it's awesome that you figured out that issue w the hindmilk.

ava was 15lbs 8oz at 3 months. LOL!!! she hasn't been back yet...appt is next monday.

I haven't been to a four-month well-baby check. I don't think I will. I'll only be pressured to vax and I'm just not there yet (undecided on either simply delaying *some* or doing away with *all*..).

I'm curious about her weight though. I think I can pop on over to public health just to see. ... Though I worry about vaxing there as well. In my town, the doctor's offices don't do the shots, only public health does. (I gave birth in a town 30 miles over though, and there they do them in the office)....

Oh... and I don't think I'll go to the doctor's office for any well-baby visits anymore. I guess (stupidly!) I scheduled her 4-month check after her 2-month check. Um, why on earth did I schedule an appointment TWO MONTHS ahead of time???? I can't remember what I'm supposed to do This Afternoon, let alone two months from now... and, I guess this is the second no-show we've had there, so we got a notice in the mail saying that the next time we want an appointment we have to pay ahead of time or they won't see us, blah, blah,

Heck, it's great incentive to just stay at home

we dont have well baby checks in the uk

we have walk in baby clinic which are held at the doctors surgery where mums can tun up to talk to a health visitor and get their babies weighed if they want to

you go if you want to and nobody is bothered if you dont go

do the doctors in the us get paid for carrying out well baby visits - is that why there seem to be so many of them?

Yeah, that and the 'recommended' vax schedule. Remember we don't have socialized health insurance like the UK and ... well pretty much every other developed country
post #12 of 19
Of course the doctors get paid for them .. and I'm sure that's why there are so many of them. I dont' know what every doctor charges, but here I'm sure it's at least $60 per visit. Simply to have the baby weighed, looked at, have some questions asked (is she eating well, have you started solids yet , do you have any concerns, etc), and out the door.

She's dropping in the percentiles ~ 75th down to 25th. I think I'm doing the same thing as was happening with Sophie and am now paying more attention to how she eats.

it is so easy to get distracted when there are other little ones around

sophie went from the 2nd percentil to just below 0.4 but is now back on the 2nd which i think is the right size for her to be

good luck let us know how you get on

I have one of the house sized babes... Luka weighs 18 lbs. at 4 mos!
Julian was always below the charts as a baby and they get the same boobs.

i bet luka is absolutely gorgeous!

its true people do come in all different shapes and sizes and i love the fact that we can recognise that and in fact celebrate our diversity

hurray for all the babies weather they be house or 1 bedroom flats!

Nope. Will hasn't seen a doc since he was just born and on the home health bili-lights. He's right on target for developmental accomplishments, and since we're not vaxing, I don't see any reason to take him to the germ cave to be weighed and given a quick once-over. I do love my naturally-minded family doc, mind you, but choose to use her only when we're sick.
