I hope this is an ok forum for this. - ETA- I meant to post in Mindful home management- oops.

I believe strongly in avoiding the use of a nursing home in the care of my elders unless they have a condition for which I cannot care. I planned on living near/with my mother at some point. She is a widdow now, and is a spry 60 year old. We currently live 30 minutes away from one another and don't get to spend much time together. There are some (new?) tax laws in our state that allow big deductions for multigeneration dwelling arrangements. She and I spoke and she would be willing to sell her house to put toward a home with a mother-in-law dwelling on property.
I don't know at this point if we would build or buy, I guess it depends on what's on the market.
So, does anyone have any imput on this. I want to make sure I am thinking about this thourghly, so if anyone has any practical considerations which you think I may have overlooked please post.

Oh and somewhat coincidentally tonight I found a house with an attached MIL cottage in the local flyer. I'm going to call tomorrow for more info.
