can anyone point me towards vegetable cookbooks that

a) aren't all pasta based?

b) don't use completely exotic vegetables and

c) aren't just side dishes?

pretty please? i'm not anti-pasta, but it seems like if you're going to eat veggie, there is an assumption that you eat a LOT of pasta (at least that's what i've found so far.) and i'm all for trying new things, but let's be honest, dd isn't super adventurous. i'm tired of dropping $$ on cookbooks where i only use a handful of the recipes.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

(i've already got moosewood, thx.)

You might like "Carb Conscious Vegetarian" by Robin Robertson. She is probably my fave cookbook author. I also highly recomend her books "Vegan Planet" and "Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker".

You might try "Feeding the Whole Family" by Cynthia Lair. She really emphasizes cooking all different sorts of grains, so I don't think it's too pasta heavy. There are a few non-vegetarian (mostly for chicken) recipes in there, but the emphasis is veg. Here's a couple links with samples recipes:

first suggestions...instead of paying for cookbooks (I'm a cookbook addict myself) Try your local library and if they don't have what you want suggest books for purchas. My local library lets patrons suggest up to three titles a month. It's saved me more than a few bucks & i've gotten to read/use some great books:

Anything by Cooks Illustrated magazine... they test each recipe 10-20-30 even more times until they come up w/ the best tasting one.
There are several, some on italian food, some on general recipies, one on chicken (dont remember if you eat meat), and many others. Their magazine is also good, I cook at least 3 of the recipes from each issue
How to cook without a book by Pam Anderson
Jack Bishop: Italian vegitatian, not all pasta but many grains such as polenta & rice
Deborah Madison: vegetarian cooking for everyone
