Fruit fly control?

Spring's in full force here and the trees outside of our house are just sucking in the fruit flies. They're making me crazy in the house!

Any ideas for natural ways to get rid of them? My local nursery's only suggestion was to douse my fruit trees with alot of chemicals. :

Are the fruit flies after the fruit? Can you keep it under control by tossing all the overripe and fallen fruit? What about screen and screen doors?

well in the house i always end up filling a glass with cide vinegar cover it with saran wrap (tightly or wrap and elastic around the saran) and than poke small holes in the top. So they get in and drown. (sorry)
Outside not sure how to help there

You could do the same thing with an empty wine bottle. They go in after the wine and can't get out.

I had very limited luck with the vinegar bowl. I put this in my composter to cut down on the clouds of ff's. About 10-15 went in and drowned. I had to just accept them for the rest of the summer.

You should also pour boiling water down the sink drain, as they feed off the gunk in the drains.

Also, keep as may fruits and vegies in the fridge as possible during an infestation. They lay their eggs in the f&v skins and then either you eat them (MMMMMM, protein) or they hatch. Gross either way.

They are so hard to get rid of, becaue they (in the absence of food) can live off of fumes in the air. (cooking food etc)
And forget about trying to smack them with your hands. You'll just look like a fool running around smacking at the air. They're too quick and you'll just end up clapping your hands together and catching air. LOl
BTDT!~

Sorry, should have been more clear. Outside they don't really bug me too much. It's the ones that get inside that make me short-circuit. Too small too swat or catch but just big enough that one in flying in front of your eyes every 15 seconds makes you .
