3 periods in a month?

post #1 of 4

Just wondering if it's normal to get three periods in a month when nursing. I got my period back at twelve months. I had a week long heavy period. Then a week went by, then I got another week long heavy period. Two weeks after that, I got another week long period. Aaah! Make it stop! Also, do you know if it is possible to be fertile with periods that close? Thanks for your thoughts on this.

It was normal for me and about made me nuts. mine went like this:
af=aunt flow or period
1st af=1 day normal af 4 days of spotting 19 days after that 9 days of spotting followed by
2nd af=2 days normal af 5 days spotting 3 days later 3days af 4days of spotting 5 days later 1 day spotting 13days later 3 days of spotting followed by
3rd af=17days af 3 days of spotting 10 days later 3 days spotting etc. etc.

the spotting got so bad with the bleeding that I went to the mw who did blood work to confirm i was not ovulation and had a u/s that was normal. I went on progesterone to get the spotting stopped(never had spotting before this at all) and very regular af's. Now I am fairly regular I guess. I dont have the spotting any more and i stopped the progesterone. Just wish af would go away totally.

the odds of being fertile with that kind of bleeding would be pretty low. Could be possible tho. I didnt start ovulation again until last cycle. (charting and cm checks)

I had cycles like that for years before finally going on birth control pills to regulate everything. The funny thing is that since dd was born and AF returned I'm actually more regular than I ever was before!

Sorry you're going through this...I know how much fun it isn't. BUT, it probably wont last too long since it's probably due to your shifting hormones. For a few months after AG returned my cycles was strongly connected to how much dd was nursing. So your little one's nursing frequency could be playing a role here.

Check with your medical care provider if you're worried, or if things don't settle down in a month or two, but if the wonky flow is the only thing going on I wouldn't worry about it too much yet! Just make sure yo're eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated (you don't want anemia on top of everything else!).

hugs mama...
