UPDATE: lost my wedding ring tonight

UPDATE: I put lost ad in the paper, and some creepo called saying he wanted $1000 to return it to me. WTF?!

--------------------------------------------------

I'm physically sick about it. I so loved my ring. It was beautiful... antique-looking filigree with a gorgeous sapphire. I can't believe I lost it. We were at the park, and I slipped it in my pocket to put sunscreen on the boys--something I do ALL the time. An hour or so later I noticed it wasn't on, so I reached in my pocket and it was gone! I retraced all my steps, and no dice. It was crowded at the park, so anyone may have spotted it and picked it up.

*big sigh* I guess I was just stupid and careless with it. But still... I'm just so sad.

Rod and I found that ring together at a little jewelry shop when we were in college in Bloomington, IN. I loved it! Later, when he was ready to propose, he went ring shopping, looking for a ring like the one I loved. Finally a little old shop owner told him, "She found a ring she loves? Go get THAT ring, boy!" And he did.

Oh, Amy, that's just awful! with you, mama...

I'm so sorry.

I think its probably worth checking with the parks department and the local police department in case a good samaritan turned in the ring.

oh... i'm crying right with you (and praying you find it!!)

I really hope someone turns it in and you get it back!!

I hope it will turn up soon! Like other posters, I'd check with parks and with police department. I don't know if your local newspaper has a "Lost and found" classified section, but if it does, I'd post a Lost ad there.

My husband lost hisring three weeks before Christmas last year. We are still mourning its loss, so I kind of know how you feel.

Sending you lots of hugs and positive thoughs, mama!

Thanks for all your hugs and tears. We rented a metal detector this morning and went searching. All we found were bottle caps, soda tabs and a screw. I'm planning on calling the parks and police departments first thing Monday (great idea!) and I'm also going to place an ad in the paper (another great idea!). As awful as this is, I feel better actually DOING something to try to find the ring. I'm not giving up hope yet.

As a last resort, the ring is covered under our homeowners policy, so I can make a claim for it and get another ring. It won't be the same though.

so sorry to hear taht. there is something about hand lotion, sunscreen, etc. taht makes rings disappear.
i was on a train from NYC to Boston about a year ago and i was putting lotion on my hands and took my ring off. the next thing i know, i was remembering to get it out of my pocket (did exact same thing you did).
i called Amtrack and filed a police report but they never found it. luckily the insurance covered it but it was such a loss for me...i ended up with a bigger diamond, but lost the smaller saphires i had on the first one.
i hope it shows up. but make sure you file the police report - the insurance co. will require it.
and if all is really lost, then try and have fun shopping for a new one. silver linign to the grey cloud kind of thing.
still sending you "find the ring" vibes though.

Nope. Nothing.

I'm running a lost ad in the local paper for a week, but no calls so far. Not surprising though. I also called the "lost property" room at the LMPD... nothing there either, and the cop I talked to pretty much told me not to hold my breath.

I've been mourning the loss of this ring, and have been moving though the stanges of grief. I'm just about at acceptance.

I called my insurance company and started a claim. From what I understand, I won't need a police report for it. This morning on the way to work, I was thinking it might be nice for DH and I to make a "date day" out of ring shopping. If he plays his cards right, he might even be rewarded for his help.

sorry you havent found it. i often wonder aobut the person who "found" my ring. i had my info. with amtrack, boston police, etc. but no one ever turned it in. what a windfall huh?

now you are almost at a point where you can start looking for a replacement. try to have fun with it. maybe there is something different you want this time. your first was great, but this may be "different"...a more modern Amy!
