stomach problem in ultrasound: UPDATE

Well, we had our ultrasound on Wednesday and found out we have a healthy beautiful baby boy. Yesterday my midwife called us and said we needed to go back in for another ultrasound because they couldn't find the stomach. Is this something I should be concerned about? She said everything else looked healthy. We did have a weird positioned baby during the ultrasound...could that have been why they couldn't find a stomach? I wasn't too worried about it at first because our midwife said we had a healthy critter in there, but the longer I think about it, the more I start freaking out about it.

Update:
We went in yesterday for our second ultrasound, and within 5 seconds of putting the wand on my belly he saw the babys stomach. I was so relieved. Even though I knew it was probably nothing to worry about, I just couldn't help feeling that huge sigh of relief when he said, "There it is...his stomach looks great. He's getting plenty of fluids in there." While we were there, we got a better look at his profile and at his male parts. The ultrasound lasted all of 10 or 15 minutes, but made all the difference in my sanity.

I want to thank you for your well thoughts and wishes.

Don't worry. My report from my 19-20 week u/s came back saying they "couldn't see" the heart, cord, or face. Obviously they did -- *I* saw them too -- but they just couldn't see them well enough to assess what they wanted to assess. U/s is not that precise and a lot seems to depend on the skill of the tech and the position/movement of the baby.

We went in for a repeat, and they appear to have seen everything just fine this time. (Except of course the sex -- baby continues to be modest! If they issued an official report on genitalia, I suppose they'd say they "couldn't find" it! But that doesn't mean it's not there!)

I would go in for another and see what they say. Try not to worry in the meantime.

s It is so hard not to worry about every little thing especially when we can't see the little one, but try not to worry. Even for the trained prof things are so hard to see & determine in u/s. How many little 'girls' turn out to be boys & vise versa? It is not uncommon for things to be misdiagnosed or be told that the baby too big/small etc... in u/s only for everything to end up fine in the end.

Thank you for asking Claudia. Things are going better than I ever could have expected. My midwife is the best. She's so very nice, and has one of those soothing personalities. My husband and I are both really looking forward to continuing this process with her.

Thanks again for making the suggestion to check over in Portland.
