Need help for stinky dish cloths

Thread Starter
I've made the switch from bleach and have been using baking soda for detergent and vinegar for the rinse in my front loader. I hang clothes on the line. I have noticed, though, that my kitchen dish cloths reek . I change them everyday, but they smell (& look dirty). I wash them in hot water and rinse in cold water. What could you recommend to get that fresh/hygenic smell back but that is NFL.

If you own a microwave (this is what I do)

I fill a bowl of water and add some lemon juice. I thien cook the cloth for 2 or 3 mins.
Another benefit of this is that it loosens any food splatters and makes them very easy to wipe off. And makes the microwave smell nice too.

A good quality oxygen bleach.

I use it for all our whites loads of laundry and we have nice brite whites. I also do an overnight soak in hot water with the OB

Have you tried boiling them in vinegar and water?

I just stick them straight in the microwave for a minute or two.

What a great idea. Can't wait to try it with my stinky sponges too.

Washing soda may do a better job than baking soda. And I second the soak in oxygen bleach. It breaks down to only water, oxygen, and washing soda and is a bit anti-bacterial.

Or toss them in a pail of 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar (perhaps with a few drops of tea tree oil?) while they wait for the wash - nothing gets a chance to grow in them between use and wash.
