And he is the most beautiful little one i ever could have imagined. I am in love.
I'll write a proper birth story when i get a chance but quickly, he was born on May 4th, though he was not due until the 16th and I was expecting to go late, so he really caught me by surprise. He didn't wait for me to have my mama blessing, or for my wonderful doctor to return from a course. But I was lucky enough to have an incredible natural hospital birth despite it all.
I had contractions tuesday night, not hard ones, but enough to keep me from sleeping. They slowed during the day and I had a hour long nap, but was thinking that I still had weeks before the real event. Real labour started at about 6:00 on wednesday night. It was a long exhausting 26 hours of hard work, but I was so incredibly lucky with my birth team and my doctor's replacement who turned out to be an angel- she took one look at our birth plan and clicked into gear for us, reminding us of our own ideas, such as using nipple stimulation to speed things up (saving my life when a cervical lip was proving difficult to move) and sitting between my legs during the entire pushing phase using hot compresses and oil- something thats not been done at our hospital before.
Ari was born at 7:46 pm thurday night, 6 lbs 12 oz and beautiful though a little underdone. He is a little preemieish and doesn't have a sucking or rooting instinct so we are working hard to make breastfeeding happen- pumping and finger feeding expressed milk and lots of skin to skin to get him interested in the boob. he's figuring things out fast and we are feeling positive and truely blessed.
