Angela (crayon), we LOVE our Baby Bjorn carrier and so has Kenny - from the first trip out. He struggled for just a second in it initially, but once I gave him his arms back he was okay. By that, I meant, he didn't like them dangling to his side, but wanted them ALWAYS between him and my chest (tucked up all secure). He wasn't concerned about his legs being out just his arms.

Anyway, it was the best purchase we made - truly. And that is why I'm looking forward to getting a KK fleece pouch and tabitha has hooked me up with a mei tai - or maybe it is called a podegi (now I can't remember - but they are pretty much the same).

The position the BB puts the baby in is hard on the pelvis which is still developing in the newborn. Any carrier that lets their legs dangle down is not good for developing pelvises and backs. That said, my rather petite dd loves the BB with her Papa, but she is standing on her own now. Also, we limit how long she's in there.

I'd heard that about the BB (after we bought it of course). At what point is it "safer"? My 4.5 month old stands and hops on my lap--would this suggest she can handle some time in the carrier without risk?

Yea, I followed the Yahoo Group's information on this one. But Kenny doesn't just 'live' in his BB . . . when he's in it he is happy though!

I'll have 4 different carriers in a matter of a couple of weeks, so he'll get some good 'rotation.'

A girlfriend of mine has the Hip Hammock and it seems to work great and it is very compact.

I have a NoJo - it's OK, a bit bulky though and not very attractive. We are borrowing a friend's BB. I wasn't comfortable using it when my ds was very small (pelvis structural stuff), but he loved it from about 5mths to now, 10mths. I feel he has just about outgrown it and now it is most comfortable carrying him on my hip. Although I would love to carry him on my back.

We may be going to Mexico later this month and I thought of trying to buy a rebozo while I was there.

Thanks so much for the KK link.... anything with a kangaroo catches my eye and it appears to be a GREAT site!

That is what we have - one of ours anyway. We bought it when our 2 year old fractured her leg and was in a cast (well, she was one then). Anyway, they do take a lot of the weight off the back and shoulders. I got the purple cordura with black fleece inner. My husband wears it well too!

hlsanders, that is so interesting that you said that about the broken leg. My girlfriend bought it because her daughter had hip surgery and both legs were in a bodycast.
I may end up splurging on one.

I loooove my H2H

And the padded sides help to tuck under a baby's bum... they kind of retain their shape when whipping baby in and out. Although I do love my maya too....and my pseudo didy.... ahhhhh sling madness!!!

Blessings!

Didymos, Didymos, Didymos!

Ok, I might be a bit partial, because I live 30 km away from where they are made. But I love them. Bought my first - size 6, very long - when pregnant with Wolfgang. My second - size 2 - when he was about half a year old, so I could carry him on my hip. Grabbed the excuse of expecting another baby when pregnant with Jutta and bought another one in size 4 and a narrow one for kids to carry dolls, which you can also use for carrying an older baby on your hip (when baby doesn't need that much back support anymore).

Advantages:
*Very versatile, carry on your front, hip and back, and there are various possibilities to tie it in any position.
*Is perfectly adjusted to size of baby and mother every time you put it on, also to if they are wearing a lot or nothing,
*There is a great variety of colours available, so there is something for everybody. My longest is basically blue, the middle one different shades of red and the shortest is a dark yellow and off-white.
*The baby is tied very tighly and securely to your body, which distributes the weight well and makes keeping your balance easy

Advantages especially for ec-ing
*Positions like the cross carry, double cross carry and hip carry allow for getting baby out and back in quickly and without any untying and re-tying
*As it is basically just a piece of cloth it dries quickly
*If baby should wet it while on the go, you can always choose another way to tie it and baby will be away from the wet spot.
*In a fix you can use the loose ends to wipe some drops of pee from baby's bottom.

The only real disadvantage to me is the prize - it's not as expensive in Germany as it is in the States though. And I always bought ones that where a bit cheaper because they where supposed to have little flaws - which I never found with any of them.

Disadvantage for ec-moms: Watch out for the long ends - they tend to hang into the bowl when using a toilet with your baby

FOR NOW, I got a Kangaroo Korner Fleece Pouch. I'm so excited and praying it arrives before I leave on my trip to Texas on the 19th. I really wanted something that was affordable, breathable for our hot summers and easy in and out for us while working during the day. Plus, I think it'll be perfect for when he just wants to sleep, but mommy needs to work at the computer. He gets uncomfortable when I switch him around too much and I can't type very well with one hand!

I have eyed those Didymos's over and over - they ARE beautiful. Maybe I need to start a change jar for one (maybe by next baby at that rate - right?)

Yikes! Isn't that a bummer! I need to shorten the tail on my home-made Maya because of that

When my baby was first born I was very intrigued with the idea of carrying him on my body so I started experimenting. I inherited several different kinds of carriers; a Nojo sling which I fumbled around with for a while but finally figured out how to use it and we still use it to this day however infrequently, my ds is now almost 20 mths, and a front carrier of some kind that worked great for a while. We tried several others that we didn't like and then turned to the baby bjorn which served it's purpose well for several months. At about six months I just couldn't stand having him hang on my front any more, then it was back on the roller coaster ride of trying to find the right carrier. Now I use about 95% of the time The ERGO. It is amazingly comfortable, versatile and my baby loves it too.
