Help, is this normal?

Errr, I feel like this is probably a silly question but I've got to ask.

This morning, after 2-3 days of slowly losing my mucus plug, I woke up spotting. (Well, woke up is the wrong word. I didn't really sleep last night because the cramps in my lower back were so painful I couldn't sleep.)

If I wasn't 39w6d pregnant, I'd think my period was starting.

I haven't passed any major clots, but it's definitely not normal cm or even the mucus pluggy stuff I was passing earlier. Lotsa pink and dark brown and a little bit of bright red a few minutes ago (very small spot, sorry about the tmi).

Please, please tell me if this is normal or if I need to go see a mw at my birth clinic....

I always start bleeding like that right when I am going into "real" labor. But, just to be on the safe side, I'd call your mf. Good luck. Maybe it is baby day!Let us know how you make out.

Well, I called-- the mw didn't seem too concerned at all. She even implied that it could be quite awhile before baby makes his/her appearance. I have an appointment tomorrow morning anyway, so that will reassure me, hopefully.

I just feel soooo bad. My back is killing me, I didn't sleep last night and the thought of going into labor now freaks me out-- what if I'm too tired to get through it??

Gah, this is miserable.

I'm sorry you're so tired. I know what you mean. Just rest as much as you can, even if it just means lying around, and eat as well as you can. Your body will kick in and know what to do. It does sound like you're close! I had some spotting before my water broke, which preceding losing my plug. You're dilating!

I hope it's soon for you!

Is it normal at 36 weeks to have some discharge?
To PP--hang in there, drink your water and try (I know it's hard) to get some rest.

Darcy--it depends...what kind of discharge? Many women simply start making more cervical mucous toward the end and this is very normal. Some women may lose part of their mucous plug around this time as well. I would say that if you're nervous you should give a call to your provider for reassurance. If you are bleeding or having contractions, call right away.

I'm always this way at the end since I've always been a least a couple cm dialated after 36 weeks...
