11 hours of labor and.....

NO BABY.

Contrax started yesterday evening around 7pm, were irregular, then regular, then irregular.

Went to bed, couldn't sleep because of the painful contrax, started actually timing them at 2 am. Every 5 minutes, like clockwork, they come, last a minute and stop. Painful but bearable.

At 5:30am we call the birth clinic. They tell us to come in, but no need to rush.

We get there at 7 am, contrax still regular.

After waiting *2 hours* in the waiting room, contrax become irregular and weaker. Finally, we get a room, get checked and I'm not dialated at all, the cervix is posterior and a little shortened, but other than that, no changes. They 'test' me to see if it really is labor by giving me an anti-spasmodic. Contrax continue, so we think we're good to go. They tell us to go take a long walk, get some lunch and come back in the afternoon.

We do. After lunch, contrax still regular, we sit down on a park bench. I'm totally wiped out, so exhausted from not sleeping that I'm practically hallucinating. I fall asleep, wake up a little later and everything has come to a complete halt. We walk some more, hoping things will pick up. They don't.

So we went back, told them we were going home, came back and I crashed and slept so hard for 3.5 hours and here I am, feeling annoyed with myself and frustrated and pretty tired of being pregnant.

Btw, am exactly 40 weeks today. I'm lucky, I still have a week before they start talking about induction here, so hopefully baby will show up before the 17th.

Sigh. Long, hard, no fun day. C'mon baby, we're ready!!!

I hope your labor becomes more efficient for you soon!

Aww, I'm so sorry. That must have been frustrating! Rest up, drink lots of water, and know that it really won't be long.

I can *totally* relate. I had a high leak all day yesterday, having ctx and feeling the head press down, then go up after the ctx and the water balloon that I felt fill up would just deflate and drizzle down my leg. :

You have to think she must be really comfy in there.... good thing ONE of us is comfy.

Mama

If your waters are still intact I would put your DH to work to help ripen things up!!

Even if your waters ruptured there is still plenty DH can do to help!

My waters ruptured befor labor began and when labor hadn't begun after 12 hours (it finally started after 18 hours) my MW and doula recommended "everything but intercourse" snuggling with my DH. It was wonderful to relax and connect with him.....and it was very effective. My contrax started up shortly after and my babe was born less than 5 hours later!!!

Good luck. Hang in there. You are SOOOOOO close!!!!

thought of a couple more things that people suggested that helped me.,...

is there anything 'unresolved' about this baby/birth that you can address? (for us it was deciding on godparents and finalizing name choices)

talk or write a letter to your baby -- let your heart open and your emotions pour out.

take a nice warm bath/shower

i'll be thinking of you mama.....good luck!

Thanks for all the warm wishes and great suggestions, Erin and everyone else!

I do think that a lot of what happened yesterday was due to feeling put on the spot-- laboring for two hours in the waiting room in a very public way : , having my BIL unexpectedly show up and knowing that on three continents people were waiting with bated breath for this baby (pressure pressure pressure) : : , being hooked up to monitors and feeling like I was being "tested" : : : .

So *next* time I'll wait a lot longer before leaving. And I've told DH that he can tell his family that I'm in labor but that he shouldn't let me know that they know.

I talked to my mom this morning and told her how mad I was at myself for what happened yesterday. And she was so supportive and loving and said something really interesting-- women tend to blame themselves when something goes wrong, whereas men tend to blame the situation (ie: women will say "I didn't get promoted because I'm not a good worker, I should have done this, that or the other-- and men will say "I didn't get promoted because my boss is a jerk ). She reminded me that as a 1st time mom I have no experience to compare with and was just trying to do my best for the baby. I my mom!

I relate momma. I went in twice thinking it was time - and it's NOT my first baby!

What an interesting observation about blame. So true.

Your baby will be here soon! the day my babe was born I took the black and blue cohosh herbal supplement - not sure if that's what kept my ctx regular or not...

Soon!
