decreased movement

Is anyone else experiancing a significant decrease in fetal movement? I had a really high energ baby inside until about 2 weeks ago. I know they say it is normal, but more and more often I have to really push and wiggle the baby to get a response. I am worried.

Oh, I am 40 weeks and 4 days.

I'd be willing to bet you are having a babe really soon. This happened with all three of mine... this is normal. But still ask your midwife/md to relieve your worry and stress.

Blessings!

I am 40 weeks 1 day and for the past two weeks I have found myself poking baby in the butt to make sure he or she is alright. The movement is there, it is just less pronounced and I have to really concentrate to feel it. It can drive you crazy, I know.

Me too. Nothing like having something to worry about now that I've passed my due date.

The baby really does seem to be getting cramped in there... but this is the longest I've been pregnant and I imagine baby will be bigger than my 6lb 2oz dd and 7lb 7oz ds.

glad i'm not the only one experiencing this. i don't remember ds slowing down this much at the end, but i could be wrong.

as long as i can get babe to respond to my poking and prodding, i'm happy.

yeah... the word i am using to describe the movement these days is "languid." an occasional prodding foot, adn that's about it. until after i put dd to bed and i have a moment to put up my feet- man! that's when the groovin' starts for awhile, mostly down in my pelvis. beating a path to the door, i guess!

Yep, me, too. To the point where I called my midwife last Sunday AM, and woke the poor woman up (it was 9 AM...but you know the schedule of MWs). We'd tried for an hour and a half to wake the baby up and she wasn't moving. The MW also pointed out to me that the baby has deeper sleep cycles now, too, just because she's older. I think as long as you can get something out of the baby, it's all normal.

i also felt diminished movement before he was born - the 2 days before I only felt him once or twice!

Less movement today here too....

Just imagine if you were in a body wrap at the spa... you wouldn't move much either, and the movements would be slower and more deliberate, because you'd be tight in there! This hopefully means the baby will suddenly decide that OUTSIDE is where she'd rather be....

My babe has been pretty mellow this whole pregnancy, but I have had a few scary moments with movement lately. I had a stillbirth nightmare the other night and when I woke up I could NOT get her to move. It took about 30 minutes and I have never been so terrified in my whole life. I cried out of relief for a long time when she finally poked me back.

Interestingly, I've noticed that sometimes, even while sitting very still, I don't feel her movements as well as I did before. Perhaps my nerves are as stretched as my belly skin? It is strange, if I put my hand on my belly I feel more than I do by just paying attention to belly sensations.

I've noticed,if I'm having a light braxton hicks,I can't feel any movement-they may last a few minutes at this point, and this is a VERY active baby.Check and see how tight your tummy is all around, there just may be a wall of muscle at work there.

thanks

It is so good to read all these responses. I am so relieved to see that my baby doesn't seem to be a freak (well, at least so far :-)

It is so hard to be patient, especially as these little scares come up. We had a scare a few weeks ago, where our midwife couldn't find the heartbeat right away, and then when she did, it was slow for a minute (like 60bpm). We had to go to the hospital across the street to get a nonstress test (which turned out fine, especially after I had some cold cranberry juice), but it scared the sh** out of me. I am sure that it is part of the reason I am so scared whenever I don't feel movement.

If everyone could give me a "down and out" thought, I would really appreciate it!!!!

So nice to read this! I was listening to her heartbeat just to "make sure" the other day (with that little Bebe sounds I'm glad I bought now!).
