On a rollercoaster! Please help!

Hi! I have postpartum depression and am on lexapro for it. I started with 10 mg and really started feeling normal again, then the depression came back full force. my doc upped my dose to 20mg and i started feeling better again for like a week then it came back again! But this time not as bad...It's like I feel great for days but it comes back....I've been told this is to be expected but is this REALLy normal? I mean why couldn't I just stay feeling good? By the way I was on 10 mg for 3 weeks, 15mg for 1 week and 20 mg for 2 weeks. So all in all 6 weeks of meds! Hope someone can help! Thanks so much.

I don't know too much about PPD. But, I have found that private counselling has helped to expunge some baggage and live in the present rather than dwelling in the past. Don't know if this would help in conjunction with the meds.

Are you getting enough sleep and protein and fluids? These really affect my attitude and mood. And exercise helps, but I don't get much. And sunshine helps me A LOT!

Also, keep in mind that it takes time for the lexapro to get really good and balanced in your system. I just went from 10mg to 20 mg at the beginning of April, and it took a good month before I noticed some leveling out of things. I did notice the med change right away (it actually made me almost manic), but it has taken this long for me to settle back into an even keel.

Give it some more time; it could take 6 more weeks or so.

Also, I agree with the pp. Talk therapy can also be helpful. I do that too.
