Manu Jai born 5.10.06!

Hi ladies, glad to see everyone having their healthy babies! Our son Manu was born last Wed, after a 21 hours, complicated labor but vaginal birth (more on that later). He weighs 8lbs 2.5 oz and measured 22 inches!
I am just so in love...........

On the downside, he was diagnosed w/ pathological jaundice and is still in the hospital, 4 days after birth. I was devasted to come home without him, and the battle to give him what's best at the hospital is driving me nuts. Anyone else dealing w/ jaundice or have you before? I need to get his billirubin down so he can come home. Your prayers are appreciated......best wishes to those ladies who have yet to deliver!

Congrats, mama!

Hope your little one gets to come home soon.

I know there are a bunch of folks around who are experienced with jaundice--maybe pop over to the Life with a Babe or Birth and Beyond forums to get more info?

Hi, my ds came down w/jaundice but after we were home already. They gave me a bili blanket to put over him that he had to wear all the time and advised me to nurse him as much as possible, even waking him up to eat as they expell it through their pee. He was under the blanket for 3 days and we nursed all the time and then it was over. Hth!

Welcome Baby Manu! :

Lucy had high levels of jaundice (after we were home) and we had to go get blood drawn every afternoon for 3 days.

I pray that Manu will be home with you soon!

Pathological jaundice is a whole 'nother ballgame than physiological jaundice- that's why I didn't make any suggestions, but I got to thinking you could try posting on the Midwives & Doulas forum for some ideas!

Manu is home

Thanks for your support everyone!! After a very emotional weekend (w/ stupid dr's and nurses sabotaging our breast feeding plans.....he came home monday morning. We were about to refuse further treatment, but thanks to 3 bottles of pumped milk that I left for him sunday his bili levels went down. He was discharged monday morning and went right back to breast feeding (after 24 hours of exclusive bottle feeding).
Anyway, he is great and nursing like a champ. The SYSTEM is so messed up...even though I planned a midwife attended hospital birth, we ended up w/ some issues. Anyway, next time around we have to carefully plan for any potential pediatric needs. Lessons on motherhood already!
