Who has all back labor??

My girlfriend and I were talking about labor, back labor, in particular, and was wondering how many of you had back labor? I have no idea what pains in the front are like, as I've only had back labor with all 3. I just thought it was interesting, because in our group of friends, I'm the only one who had all back labor.

I did, and frankly, I think I prefer it. It was easy for me to manage because it was similar to my menstrual cramps. My mother had back labors, too, and said she also didn't think it was that painful (I didn't believe her until I'd done it myself). I've had some contractions that were painful in the front this time and I did NOT like them! My MW wants me to prepare for this kind of pain and I seriously hope it doesn't happen. I'm not sure how I will manage.

I had back labor only during transition. The rest was front and was not painful.

I had all back labor with my first birth--never felt a thing in the front. I do NOT want a repeat of that and have been doing my best to avoid it. My big worry now is that I won't recognize when I'm in labor without the back pain!

Hmm, I must be wimpy my back labor was HORRIBLE. I felt like I couldn't control it, I tried all my relaxation techniques, and I just wanted to scream, and I am NOT a vocal woman during labor. But, I do know that when it got to that point, I was in transition with all 3 of them. If only I could have remembered that it only lasts for a short time...

I have only had back labor with all three of mine. I have never felt front contx only cramping just above my pubic bone. I think mine has more to do with nerve placement as I experience it as heat. It starts as a low burn and by transition feels like a blow torch on my lower back at the end it migrates down the back of my legs as well. It makes me very sensitive to touch so no one touches me heat, water, massage, pressure and most especially vag exams exacerbate the sensation of heat to an unmanagable level. OH and I have never had a posterior baby in labor all have been in perfect position. If I am left completely alone in a darkened place with just dh it never gets uncontrolable (which is why I am doing uc this time).

Sydnee you are not a wimp back labor is horrible.

I had all back labor with my son. I never felt a thing in the front. I found most of it to be tolerable - until I had to labor standing up for hours b/c I had a tiny lip that would not budge @ a ten. I *think* I may want back labor again -b/c I have no idea what to expect if I don't....

I had back labor this time for the first time... with my first two my contractions kinda wrapped around so I felt it in my back too but this time it was mostly in my back. She wasn't posterior, we think she had nuchal hand as I was pushing her out. The more I think about it, the more I'm sure of it.

Youch, that back labor was awful... I'm so glad labor was only 2 hours!

I Love Back Labor!

Out of the 5 births the first 3 were back labor.

I was beginning to question what backlabor really was when we had #4 and I expected backlabor but got the "normal" kind. (OUCH it was fast and sharp! give me my bone-crushing labor any day over that )

Sweet Delly (Adelle 1-06), my last birth, was not only posterior, but her head was in a funny position. So, I got my back labor, with a side of series malposition causing her cephalahematoma. We called it her fin, luckily it drained in only a few weeks.

The funny thing is that we all read and are taught that back labor is a bad thing and caused by a poor position. That labor is often longer and more drawn out, because the contractions are not only dialating and moving baby downward, but turning baby to anterior.

I prefer it that way. My last labor was more difficult then some of the others due to no break between contractions (most were double peaking) and no real relief because when dh did counterpressure or pushed on my hips it just hurt because of how her head was. But it was only like 2 hrs where it was sweat-pouring hard and by then I could feel it was all transition, so that helped me ride it out.

NAK

so i've now had my 2nd and it was also back labor, and even easier. neither of my babies were posterior--i think i back labor simply b/c of my anatomy. that may explain the difference btwn levels of pain.

Both my girls were posterior so I've only had back labor... however DD1 flipped the "right" way when she came out, DD2 came out posterior.

Well, I too, have now experienced only back labor with both of my DS's.. With DS #1 I felt like I could stay on top of the contractions, with DS#2 it was a whole different story. When labor started I went right into transition and I could not get in control. I was trying every relaxation technique known to man and still became very vocal. Thank God I knew I was in transition - and that I only had to work through it for 3 hours. I have no idea what a contraction feels like in the front, only the slight cramping from my cervix dilating, but I know that back labor was pretty tough this last time.
