Foreskin retraction and cleaning question

Thread Starter
At my DS's well-baby check up today (2 years old) the dr. retracted the foreskin. I was shocked (not because I thought it was wrong for the dr to do, but because of the screams that came out of my son's mouth) and walked out feeling angry and sad that DS was hurt. I don't know much about the intact penis. I read the sticky above about dr's retracting the foreskin, and now I'm ever so mad and will not let it happen again.
My question is, when does the foreskin typically retract on it's own? When do I have to (or tell DS to) start cleaning it? Is there ever a need for "intervention" to forcibly retract it? The doctor said something about it being to tight and causing bladder problems because urine can back up into the bladder from a too tight foreskin. Seriously?
I won't ever let anyone do that to DS again. I'm off to have a good cry about DS's experience today.

Your doctor was typical uneducated idiot.

Your doctor harmed your son. You should report him. Let's change it other way round. What if you had a daughter and doctor had put a plunt object into your daughters vagina to make sure it is wide enough ... would you report him?

There is absolutely no need to retract him - the owner of the penis will know when it is OK to retract . Seperation of the foreskin can happen anywhere from babyhood to teenage years. As long as your child pees normally, there is nothing you need to do.

Please read this excellent short introduction from Fathering magazine;

http://www.fathermag.com/health/boy-care/boy-care.shtml

And PLEASE, print out the AAP (American Academy
of Pediatrics)instructions for care of intact penis - make sure your doctor will be educated, to save any future intact children!!

Here is also the website of Doctors Opposing Circumcision, you might want to tell them about your bad experience and ask if they know intact friendly near you!

No it being to tight will not make urine back up : him retracting it tho can cause bacteria to get in there were he tore things loose. Keep a close eye out for infection chances are he will be fine tho. I am sorry ur son was hurt.

THERE IS NEVER A REASON TO FORCEABLEY RETRACT THE FORESKIN anyone who tells u there is reason to is WRONG. (sorry for the caps and red but it is very important information.

The best thing to do is show ur ds how to swish it in the bath and if HE ever shows u that it is retractable then have him retract, swish, replace it hisself there is no need for u to do it for him.

Natural retraction can happen at any time between infancy and adulthood all are normal.

What this dr did was assault and u should contact the lawyer listed in the Warning sticky and have him send a letter to the dr. not only for ur son but all the other intact boys he may do this to in the future. He could potentially cause enough damage that the boy would end up having to be circed later due to scar tissue. Please take action dont let him get away with it.

you already know your reasons to be pissed. so i wont list them

The foreskin retracts naturally sometime between birth and death. That is not a joke.

It is a hormonal change that 'usually' occures between 2-20 but it can happen earlier and can happen later.

Your son will learn when to retract by playing with it on his own, no one should ever retract your son. It is sexual abuse. Imagine if someone shoved something up your 2 year old daughter just to get a look in there?

the prepuce is physically attatched to the head of the penis like a fingernail to the nail bed. Now can you understand why he screams?
