When does your baby go down for the night?

I'm thinking lately that I've been keeping DS up way too long, or maybe he's hit a growth spurt. He usually is up until almost 11 every night and up at 7. He'll have a catnap around 9 but wouldn't stay asleep. The past couple nights he's been going down for the night closer to 10.

From what I hear, most babies are down in the early evening.

10-11ish here. That's when she either insists on going to bed or conks out in my lap; I like to encourage the latter, because it gives me a bit more flexibility. We are a family of night owls though, and she gets a good 11 or 12 hours' sleep a night (not straight through!) plus naps here and there during the day. It sounds like yours might need an earlier bedtime (or a later wake-up time if that's possible?) if he's only sleeping 8 hours at night.

7:30 or 8pm here...sometimes later, but not often. the latest ever was probably 9:30 or 10. she wakes up for good at around 6 or 6:30am.

8:30 on the dot - usually within 10 minutes either side. but ds was an 11:00-er forever...

Baby Winter goes to bed when DP and I do, usually around 10:30 or 11.

thanks for starting this thread. i have been wondering the same thing. alice goes to bed anywhere from 9:30 to 11:45. usually closer to 10. but if she wakes up between 8 and 9 a.m., then on the later nights she is probably not getting enough sleep.

i feel guilty for not trying harder to get her to sleep. 8-11 is usually our sit on the couch and watch t.v. time : i wonder if i got up and took alice upstairs and sat in a dark room rocking her, if she would go to sleep earlier. (although, dh did try this the other night. she was up until almost midnight!)

we are a family of night owls, too. i was kinda hoping that having a baby would break us of our bad staying-up-too-late habits, but so far it hasn't.

This is a major issue here.
No matter when we start or what happens or how much crying or nursing or struggling (or lack thereof), both girls fall asleep between 11pm and midnight. I really don't think they're getting enough sleep, and I think I don't do enough to encourage them to sleep, and a lot of times the days are kind of wacky because we're all tired.

I just joined a thread in "family bed" to get some advice and try to figure out a direction, b/c this can't continue....it's tough on us!

Drew starts to get gritchy around 8:00, and will usually conk out by 9-ish. If I give him a bath and snuggle time between 8 and 8:30, he'll crash soon after. So I guess we're starting a routine.

My biggest complaint about Drew's sleep time is that he sleeps his longest stretch (at least 4 hours) after he first goes down. I should go to bed then so I can get a long stretch of unbroken sleep myself, but I have all my nightly chores to do. Plus I like to spend at least an hour decompressing from the day (read: vegging out in front of the TV). Sometimes I may even talk to DH. So what gives?

Around 11pm. He sleeps til at least 10am, sometimes as late as 2pm. He is not a napper.

Mine - falls asleep around 9 or 10. We sleep until about 9 or 10 (w/a few eating interuptions).

I'm glad to hear there are other mamas who don't get up at the crack of dawn!

ohhhh, i'm so jealous of all your late sleeping babies. i'm a late sleeper myself (in my ideal world) but ds is up by 6 am, no matter what time he goes to bed. he's usually starting to get cranky and ready for sleep around 6:30 or 7 pm, but wants me to nurse him to sleep for an hour (right at dinner time!)... so we are still trying to figure that out!

another thing he's starting to do is wake up every 1/2 hour or so to nurse btwn 4 and 6 am which is brutal for me. anyone else experiencing this??

i need to start keeping a log. he usually doesnt go down at night until 11 or 12, but sometimes its around 9ish. regardless he will usually wake up for a little while in the mornign and then nap from around 9-12..then its on and off nursing, napping, playing until around 5ish and then he takes a big nap then too. i really should try to get some routine but i really dont know how to make him nap, kwim?

11pm. And he wakes up around 8 (sometimes earlier, but he can often be coaxed to go back to sleep for another couple hours until 9 or so.)

8pm, the same time as big bro and sis. Sleeps til about 9 the next AM with a coupla nursies in between.

anywhere between 10-11...and wakes up once in the early AM to feed, then sleeps usually until about 8:30 am or so.

this thread is so relieving to me because i was wondering about ds going to sleep so late... glad to see that other babes have similar sleep habits.

Greyson goes to bed around 8 or 9pm and sleeps until 9, with wake-ups for nursing around 3am and 6am, consistently.

Rachel, it seems to me that you are really good at getting him to nap if he naps that much!!

I'd love to get anything more than an hour a day out of my little guy, but that's a good day for me. He seldom naps for longer than 20 minutes at a time unless he's snoozing on the boob. He can go for several days without doing anything but catnaps, which is a real drag. He gets crabby, but I just can't get him to go down when he's bothered by anything at all.

We go to bed between 9 and 11, although I have to start the process at 8:30. Right now he has to be in our nursing spot in the darkened room, where I have to sit alone for 2 hours every night while he nurses/snoozes to sleep! It's getting down to an hour and a half, now, but it's still really annoying! He sleeps his longest stretch then (about 5 hours), so I haven't been pushing too hard for an early bedtime. If I made it any earlier, I'd have to start at dinnertime!

10-11pm ish and nurses 2-3 times (for a few minutes) before we get up at 9am. I usually go to bed around 1 am. She is always on my lap and will not sleep anywhere unless she is touching someone.

anytime after 5.30pm, generally between 6 - 6.30pm, then she gerally wakes at 5.30am and will feed and go back to sleep until i get out of bed and disturb her

Lately it's between 8 and 9 pm. Sometimes earlier but not usually. I prefer that she goes down around 9, actually. If she does, she usually sleeps until the alarm goes off at 5:50 am.
