We are sooo struggling with names for our adorable baby girl. Please see a photo of her in my sig line for an idea of what she looks like.

Fern - meaning obvious and I am a botanist so I like that, but prefer 2 syllable names

Freya - Norse goddess of love, often used in Germany too so sorta goes with the German part of our heritage

Uma - Tibetan/Hindu goddess - love the sound and meaning of it, but trying to figure out if "there's only one Uma" as one baby naming book says...(we would not be naming her after Uma Thurman specificially)

Mattea - to commemorate her deceased uncle...

I voted Fern, but I do love Freya, just not with Mattea. But, I do love Mattea as a first name!!

Does Freya rhyme with Mattea? If not, it's my favorite, but I'm not entirely sure of the pronunciation?

Ksenia -

I actually did a search on your threads this morning to see if you had named your sweet girl!

Names are soooooo hard for us too! (Of course, I am still waiting for baby..)

I love your choices. Fern is so sweet...and it also applies in my mind as a May baby name!

However, if you want a name that goes with your son's (not sure if that is an important criteria or not, but I have "considered" it with some of our choices), I think Freya goes better.

I also like Uma, but it does make me think of Uma Thurman (not sure if that applies in Canada!?)

I voted for Fern as my favorite. I love the middle name...

I agree that I like Freya the best as a first name--but not if it rhymes with Mattea! Fern would be my second choice.

OOPS!! What happened ?!? Sorry...

I chose names that I liked but based them on the rhythm. Always did 2 syllable 1st names+3 syl mid names+2 syl last names. I wanted it to work nicely together. I love Fern and Freya, but would ask how they ring with your last name...

Best to you, good luck!

I think she looks like Freya... but I do love the name Fern!

Freya and Mattea do rhyme, don't they? Not sure if that flows well, dependso n your last name...

Wanted to add: I also really like Mattea as a first name! Not sure if it was something on your list--but Mattea Fern is really pretty (and has a nice flow, I think), sounds good with your ds's name, and you always have the option of Mattie as a girly nickname.

P.S. Checked out your pic--what a gorgeous little girl (and boy)!
