No matter *how* often I brush my teeth, my breath *still* reeks of an open grave.

I did the whole kit n kaboodle today too, full brush for like 2 minutes, with my wonderful Oral B Cross action electric tooth brush, Floss, listerine, you name it, I did the full oral hygene rigamarole..

not TEN MINUTES ago

My breath still reeeks of an open grave.

Now, is this normal for pregnancy?

When I was pregnant with my DD I was too poor to afford toothpaste : and was stuck using salt and baking soda to clean my teeth..so my breath always reeked then...because of lack of supplies...

my DH is starting to complain and accuse me of not brushing...

Is it possible you have an infection in your mouth? I've heard bad breath can be associated with teeth problems or infection... Also do you mouth breathe? I've heard that can impact too.

nope.

Nose breathe.

And no, no mouth infection.

I brush religiously, 2-3 times a day, Floss twice a day...rinse with Listerine twice daily.

Have you been to the dentist lately?

I do know my mouth feels grungy quicker right now..but the toothbrushing works for me...

I dunno Pandora, whatcha been eating, zombies? (my pitiful attempt at humor )

is Listerine Alcohol based? Because that can dry out your mouth and contribute to bad breath.

Maybe it is something in your diet that your body doesn't do well with during pregnancy?

Dairy???

My husband used to get this, it was bad! I read somewhere last time he had it that it came from the gut. Not sure where I read it, it might be worth checking out.

Yes Listerine is alcohol based....I need something like it because I have a bondable retainer stuck to my bottom front teeth..I need something that can kill the goopies that gets stuck in behind it....Oral B antibacterial/floridated mouthwash doesn't work....trust me I tried it...

Listerine is the *only* thing that has been keeping my front bottom teeth from falling out of my head...

And I eat very minimal dairy. Mabe 1/4 cup in my cereal, and a few Tbsp in my morning coffee...

Reflux can cause NASTY breath. So can not brushing your tongue.

Also think about trying a neti pot. Dirty sinuses can also contribute to foul breath.

Do you have m/s? Tummy problems cause nasty breath.

I have wicked post nasal drip due to allergies.

No I can't use the neti pot, I have a deviated septum and if I put *ANYTHING* up my nose it winds up running down the back of my throat causing me to gag

and just nausia, no acctual vomiting..

Not in your DDC, but I had this my whole first trimester, it got better around month 4 I think. My poor DH said it was *really* bad, like he couldn't kiss me at all or sleep facing me bad. It must have been horrible because he wouldn't usually say anything, and I did everything I could think of. Drinking tons of water seemed to help, at least temporarily.

It went away, i never did figure it out! DH thinks it was related to the fact that my whole body started to smell different--he says it's not bad now, just different, but definitely not the same as before I got pg.

I'll second the "tonsil expression".

Also, it very may well be coming from your gut. Eating parsley regularly will help with that.

you might also want to try Papaya pills.. they are at the natural health food stores.. they have an enzyme that helps break down certain things in your tummy to avoid bad breath coming from the gut.. I would double check with being able to take them while preggo.. but they do help... I had Gastric Bypass about 5 years ago and I had to chew these because meat wouldn't break down properly in my tummy and I would get wicked nasty breath...it might help

Poor Momma... .... personally, if you have really bad post nasal drip I would say more than likely that is your culprit. You said you have a deviated septum and anything that goes up your nose goes down your throat.... well, at night, we don't swallow as often as when we are awake... this could be harboring bacteria which will most definitely cause foul breath. Another thing, if you haven't been to the dentist recently, I would go just for a check-up.... gingivitis is known to spring up in pregnant women and it also causes constant bad breath no matter how vigorously you brush, floss and rinse. Get a really good tongue scraper... the metal kind, but beware... if you have any type of m/s.... it will cause you to gag!!! lol.
