Have you taken babe to the library?

I just went with a neighbor to the 0-24mo "Lapsit" at the public library. She said there were way more kids than usual, about 20, but everyone sat on the ground or benches with their wee ones and helped them know they were happy by clapping their hands and stomping their feet. We got to play with bells and sing songs and play with puppets.

Titus was a little bit overwhelmed at first when he saw all the kids at once but after a good scream with his head buried in my shoulder, he inspected them all one at a time then thoroughly enjoyed himself. He especially liked the bubbles. I

'm really excited to go back. Unfortunately they don't have it next week and they don't have it at all later in the summer. There were a couple moms with babies the exact age as Titus, one nursing her 19mo and a few wearing their babies! I'm so glad there are others like me in some regard nearby!

I actually took Stuart at 2 1/2 months (ours is 0-18 months) because my mom just retired from the library and wanted to show him off. The children's librarian kept suggesting it, and I went because it was too cold outside to go for walks. He absolutely loved it! He was overwhelmed, but not to the point of crying. He'd just sit there looking so serious and watching all of the other kids do their songs and stories. Then he'd come home and sleep for like 3 hours straight, which he never does! I can't usually get a half hour nap out of this guy, let alone a good chunk like that. Once I figured out that the sleep was going to happen, I went every week. He really enjoyed watching everything even though he didn't really understand what was going on. They do a five week summer session which I'm going to sign up for. I'll be interested to see what he thinks of it now that he's older.

I've just been in to pick up my holds. DS was about 3-4 months old. He was fine except when the librarian knocked over a stack of books at the checkout counter. Then he stuck out his bottom lip, trembled for a moment, and started crying. The librarian thought it was cute and nobody seemed upset about the momentary noise.

at our little library (just three blocks from our house!) there is a weekly story hour on wednesdays for all non-school-aged children. we have been going to that since about last october with the oloder dds.it's great!

Our library is right across the street - so if Fin is up and well rested, we go to the baby/toddler time. She loves to listen to the stories and watch the other kids. They have a craft or activity afterwards - so we just skip out then and go look at books - but she really enjoys it and it gets us out Try it out if your library has one - i think it is good to expose them to libraries as early as possible!

We go to the library often, but not for story hour...we usually just sit and read books, and then choose some to take home (this is with older DS too!)

The Red Balloon weekly story telling

Every week on tuesday at this really great children's book store, a woman comes and reads stories, does puppets, plays the fiddle and sings all kinds of clapping and bouncing songs. it is a half-hour event. I am not kidding, there are sometimes 50 moms, each with a baby. Babies start coming at a week old! We don't go every week, but it sure is fun! My daughter of course can't do any of the clapping, but loves seeing the other babies and people.

We also went to the opening gala for the new Mpls. library. There were 1500 people there all dressed up in gowns. She wasn't the youngest though! There was another girl there that was only a couple of months old.
