my nightly med extravaganza

I don't know how much I've talked about this...but here is my nightly routine.

I have apa syndrome (clotting disorder)

One lovenox injection
two prenatals (one vit, one dha oil)
folic (I make all my own breads, etc. and worry about getting enough)
baby aspirin
B6 - although I'm beginning to get sporadic on this one.
Caltrate

I can handle all of that...until I get to the caltrate. I just want to puke that ridiculous chalky nasty thing up. I know I need it b/c of the lovenox injections, but it sux sux sux!! :

Have you considered spreading out your supplements throughout the day? You might be doing your body a disservice in regards to absorption by taking them all at once.

Love and peace to you I'm struggling to swallow any of my supplements -- DH is getting on my case...

very true...but I have a hard time remembering otherwise and just end up taking them all at night anyway. I'm still sitting here trying to garner the courage to chew the damn caltrate already.

You poor thing I can't stand taking pills and chewing them is even nastier!!!

I dunno...they actually want me to take two of them, but if I take two at the same time I get horrible diahrhea (sp?). And I can't ever remember to take it in the morning. I eat a lot of calcium foods so I don't worry about getting the second. I just know they want me to have between 1200 and 1500 (mg?) and one caltrate has 600.

FYI I did it. Part of my problem is that I have m/s at night. I don't have it in the morning like a normal person, it starts somewhere around 4 in the afternoon. blech.

BBM, I read somewhere that you body can absorb only that much calcuim at once. You might want to spread it out just because of that. They suggest to take supplements calcuim few times a day. Since your prenatal have calcium too, you might want to take one with breakfast or with lunch. Just sharing what I read.
Do you have to take the chewable kind? I worry a lot about calcuim too, but I just take a normal calcuim supplement...Do you know if caltrate is better?

Hey, make a note to yourself over the bathroom sink... take pills. So, you'll remember during your many trips to the bathroom throughout the day to take your meds! Or, if you use different bathrooms throughout the day, how about crocheting "TAKE YOUR MEDS" on the inside of your undies?

*lol* I think ya need my problem. My m/w always tells me I need less calcium as I tend to drink 3.5-4 gallons of milk a week by myself while pg I'm taking an "all natural" prenatal that requires you to take 4 tabs plus 1 of flax seed for my Omega3s and thats bad enough. OH and the Red Rasp. Leaf/alfalfa/nettle mix tea. I can't imagine doing the shots though. my good friend has a similar issue during pg and had to...Ouch! And I like the crocheting undies idea

I keep my vitamins right on the bedside table, so that I can't forget to take them. I take my prenatal in the evening, that way I will sleep through any nausea from the iron in them. And I take a 500g chewable calcium magnesium supplement in the morning, because iron and calcium can interfere with each other's absorbtion.

I know that if I didn't have them and a glass of water by my bedside, I would never remember to take them!
