Thankfully my midwife taught me years ago how to treat mastitis, because it’s a common ailment for me when I’m nursing. I kid you not~after starting treatment, my fever of 102 was completely gone within three hours during this past episode last week! This works EVERY time, and I’ve even had it where my temp was 104 for a few days before realizing what was up. Here’s what ya do:
First, fill your tub with water as hot as you can stand. Lie on your belly with both affected “areas” completely submerged for a minute or so. Then start to massage from the base of the “area” to the tip, expressing. What will happen (if not in this soaking then in the next one or two or three) is you’ll express the plugged ducts out, and they’ll come out in a string~kinda like a pimple (as the milk flows, it will dissipate in the water~you‘ll be able to tell the difference). It’s very important to do this every two hours diligently! In between soakings, rest, eat, and drink, drink, drink (and nurse, nurse, nurse). I happened to have some New Chapter Cold and Flu herbal capsules, so I did take one. Whenever you’re nursing and have flu-like symptoms, ALWAYS treat for mastitis as well!
My LANA wool pads came today, and we had a BUSY van day~which is what triggered it last week. OH they did GREAT! I'm going to do a write-up and hope to get another pair of the tear-drop shaped ones in large. I’m the PERFECT test candidate, as I just seem to get it ALL THE TIME. These really did make a difference, as the last long day we had I was dizzy and feverish by the end of the afternoon!

That's almost exactly what I say to my little guy when he starts coughing and spluttering from my nutso letdown...but I don't have a bigger one to mimic it. Too cute!!
