How is breastfeeding for everyone? - Page 2

BFing is going great here too. Kiara nurses all the time and is gaining like a little football player (gotta keep up with the big brothers I guess). I've been fortunate and all 3 of my kiddos were amazing nursers.

I do seem to have over active letdown (man does it sting for a moment too!), and she'll occasionally sputter and let go - thus resulting in me, her and anything nearby getting sprayed. DH thinks it's hilarious. Glad I'm amusing.

We're cosleeping, so nursing at night is easy as well. It's just the waking up part that I hate (that and the fact that she lvoes to fill her diaper right after nursing and then try to fall back asleep, so I have to get up and change her and try to be careful to not wake her up - LOL).

max, DS is a gassy little guy! He farts constantly (I gotta say, he probably inherited this from his parents, ).

He's not usually distressed by it (he doesn't cry, just grunts a bit!) but I do think it's part of what's preventing him from being comfortable on his back. Stretched out like that, I think he feels the gas more and it makes him uncomfortable and wakes him up.

I've heard I'm supposed to avoid lotsa different stuff, like beans and broccoli and strawberries (???) but I just have a hard time buying this kind of advice. We don't eat a lot of meat and so beans/ lentils make up a big part of our diet, and have for years.

The food journal is a good idea. I'll try keeping one. Last night DS had kind of a rough night, he had some kind of fart or poop that just wouldn't come out and he spent most of the night after 3am straining in his sleep (poor guy!)

nurins is gooing good here-I was ocncerned about not having enough milk-I was so huge last time and seemed to have buckets of milK! now I think It is just that he was slow nursing well because my supply is increasing. He has a funny nursing style though-he sorta tests things out a little before really latching on-I don't know how to describe it but he just doesn't latch on right away-he sorta leaves his mouth open and checks things out first. Anyway its so cute-and once he decides to latch on he does well. Its so sweet watching him nurse though-I had forgotten how they look as new babies.

to the mamas having some difficulties with BF. Hang in there!

BF is going pretty well for us here. Sayon's latch is getting to be about perfect which is great. He's chunking up nicely and poos and pees up a storm much to my round the clock diaper changing amusement.

Marylizah I hear you on the gassy baby issues. Poor baby, he's asleep next to me in the little baby swing DH bought him and is just a grunting and making the worst faces. I get so paranoid at times but he doesn't really cry or seem to be in any serious pain or anything. I posted about this in Life With A Babe about a week and a half, 2 weeks, ago as that's when this whole gassiness thing started.

I also know that his little body is trying to adjust to life outside of mama and his tummy seems to be protesting. Sometimes it seems like he gets a particularly funky bubble in there and on top of that wants to keep nursing and up his food will come. That's only happened about 3 times in the last couple of weeks though so we're not too too worried, although I still worry. He's never in any distress and just looks at us like "What?" It really freaked me out the 1st time!

I'm so elated when I'm changing his diaper and he just starts pooting away! I'm all like "Good job baby, that's good tootin'!"

I think I've got the OAL as well. We were laying down the other day to nurse and bam, right in the eye. My little guy will be gulping big time then start choking sometimes in other positions. We've had pretty good success with the side laying for getting him to slow down and not choke.

I dunno, the day before yesterday he nursed and nursed and nursed and nursed, all day long (I was one worn out mama, lemme tell ya) no problems, minimum grunting, happy baby. I'm on top of the world, all is roses, then last night and this morning, major grunting, etc. Sigh... I feel so bad for my baby.

I'm all ready getting all choked up because he's growing so fast. He'll be a month old tomorrow. : But I also want his little body to adjust and that will take time. Sigh... What a rollercoaster ride this is!

Things aren't going so well around here. Poppy is an awesome nurser and has a great latch. Mommy on the other hand...

We have been supplementing over the past 2 days, because before that she had lost 13% of her birth weight. My milk still hasn't come in and she's 5 days old now. Often, post-cesarean moms will have a delay in milk production, but this still sucks. I managed to pump 5ml in the middle of the night last night. That is the best pumping I have done yet.

And one nipple is cracked. Ouch. It's actually feeling a lot better than it was yesterday, now that we have the football hold figured out.

Of course, i'm grumpy too. Everyone thought I was being a pessimist when after I said the breastfeeding classes offered here were "too positive" and really, really skimmed over potential problems with a "most problems can be solved with correct latch and positioning" arg.

The only thing we came up against that has surprised me is when dd spit up three times in one day. Just a big glob of half-digested milk... ewww! I finally realized that she is a baby who needs to be burped . Neither of my first two needing to be burped after nursing and it just didn't hit me at first that Audrey does. She lets out some gorgeous man sized burps.

Many, many I hope things get going for you soon! I know sometimes it does take a mama's milk longer to come in post-surgery. Sending lots of hugs and milk supply vibes your way.

throkmama-pumping helped up my milk supply those first few days when wyatt wasn't nursing enough. mine wasn't what it should have been for the first week. we had a vag delivery-but he was so sleepy with jaundice he just wasn't into the nursing groove.

Big hugs to you Throkmorton. I hope things get worked out soon. Blah, things can be so frustrating.

Michelle, Sayon's a burper too. Big 'ole manly burps most of the time. He must get it from his parents. :

Today is Day 5.

She had gained 1 oz when I weighed her today... she's still taking minimal supplement. Today only 90ml again. But she's had 6 wets and 4 poopies so that should mean she's getting enough. She's content! Has nice wake times and nice naps.

Wow! Breastfeeding...hmm... with dd, it was a piece of cake. With ds, not so much! He nurses quite regularly (we think he's going to have reflux, like dd did... UGH! ). He's unbearable after he eats (gassy, poopy, extra squirmy, etc). I'm going to cut out all dairy again (did this with dd) to see if that helps him any.

Then, he thinks that my boobs are laffy taffy and that he can just pull on them at will and to the length that works for him. Generally speaking, that nipple length doesn't work for me! LOL

Then, it looks like we've got a case of the yeasties from the antibiotics after c/s delivery (YUCK), although there are no outward signs. We're both being treated, but no relief yet (I've been treating topically for 6 days and they just put him on nystatin the day before yesterday). Anyone know how long it takes to get some relief? My nipples are KILLING me. They started to crack, bleed (just a tiny bit) etc. in the beginning, but have now kind of gone pale : It's like ds is sucking the pigmentation right out of them! Heehee.

And on a final note, I forgot just how uncomfortable nursing, let-down and engorgment can be. The joys of breastfeeding, but I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. It's just such a sweet and loving bonding experience.

Sorry for the rant mamas, but I feel better now!

breastfeeding is finally going well! Ari didn't have a suck reflex at birth so its been a long process of finger/tube feeding and pumping and worrying about the little guy.

but he is now 3 weeks old and seems to have caught on to the bfing thing- we got through the last 2 nights without any supplements! yeah! And at his appointment 2 days ago he had gained a bunch (he's 7lbs 1 oz, up from 6 lbs 9 oz at last appointment) so i know he's getting what he needs. He eats all the time, and has epic 2 hour feeds sometimes, but i'm actually really enjoying it- i'm lucky to have this time with him and since he's my first, i only really have him and me to take care of right now. Sometimes i look down at him and just feel such joy to have this beautiful breastfeeding baby! I'm so glad i stuck through the hard days, sometimes a bottle sounded like a good idea...

hugs to the mamas who are struggling with bfing, my thoughts are with you... its so hard!
