Articles on advantages of no formula at ALL, ever?

Hello, my well-read friends. Anyone got "evidence-based" articles on breastfeeding exclusively (ie, maybe solids but no formula) versus supplementing with formula OVER the age of 6 or 8 months? I did a search on kellymom, but didn't find what i was looking for.

TIA!

ya...I try to use this article/info for moms who think they are doign a great job by "doing both".....
they just don't get the whole gut flora thing that and that yes, even ONE bottle can seriously mess things up....

But wouldn't solids do the same thing? Is it still an argument after solids are started (after 6-8 months)?
Another thing to add to your essay is that even vitamin drops before 6 months will also change the flora.

It's very scientific, but a good read.

Yes, the one on the Dr. Jay site was the Marsha Walker article, as was the one JamesMama posted. And there are Marsha Walker articles on the Kellymom site too.

So I'm curious, does anyone have experience with supplementing one child but not another? My first daughter got some formula in the hospital. My second daughter never had formula or anything but breastmilk for months, although I think she had a little taste of solid food earlier than I had planned. Their bowel patterns were pretty different, but I don't know if they would have been anyway or not. DD1 pooped constantly, like every diaper, whereas DD2 would go for days without pooping.

DD never recieved formula, just breastmilk for the first 6 months and pooped about every other day. DS recieved 1 bottle(as far as I know) of formula in the hospital. Almost every diaper has a little bit of poop in it and it's always runny. In addition I've had to cut out all dairy in my diet. It was causing severe sores on his bottom. So I've had a similar experience so far.

Can anyone tell me if it was really necessary for DS to recieve formula in the hospital for a low glucose level. I wonder if it was low because I refused an IV. Wouldn't breastfeeding have helped him?

I don't know about supplementing, but ds never had anything but bm and had at least 5-6 poopy diapers a week as a newborn, so it might depend on their body.
