strange appearance on foreskin

My 19 month old son's foreskin has always been kind of long in the front. But lately I've noticed that the skin in the very tip is red and almost swollen looking. Of late there has also been a whitish discharge in some of his dipes. Today I was trying to examine a bit more (of course he fights it left and right) and it almost looks as though in the red, inflamed looking part, there is a section that has what appears to be pus. Anyone else have this happen to their intact son? Any suggestions? I'm afraid if/when I take him to the ped about this, they'll want to retract the foreskin which I think would only make it worse....

So ladies (and gents) any help you can give would be GREATLY appreciated.

TIA

PS if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it to the right place! Thanks

That happened to my son when he was little. I just thought his foreskin was a little bit irritated and I gave him a warm bath with lavender oil, chamomile oil and just a couple of drops of tea tree oil (just a few drops of each. Essential oils are so strong--especially the tea tree oil.) It helped immensely.

Also the whitishness could be smegma. The skin sheds as the foreskin separates from the glans. It sort of builds up under the foreskin until it can work its way out.

Here's a good link:

Define "Discharge".

Could well just be smegma but if it is a fluid or something then it could be a cause for concern.

i wish I could define it... I never see it IRL just the proof of it on the dipe (colored fleece on the AIO)
I've been using my homemade wipe solution now instead of the disposable or flushable wipes and insisting that DC do the same and the redness has lessened. (THe solution has aloe vera gel, tea tree oil, calendula, olive oil, bronners baby soap and LOTS of water...) I think what appeared to be the swelling is much less just abundant foreskin, but there is an area that is pink surround a whitish center that almost looks like a blister would look.

Any ideas?

DH thinks he has too much foreskin (DH is intact as well) but I keep saying he'll grow into it.....

We have had several reports of these over the years and we don't really have an answer. I contacted Marilyn Milos at NOCIRC and she had no idea either but suspects it is similar to or the same thing as a whitehead where a pore has become clogged. In all of the previous cases, it has disappeared in a few days and doesn't seem to be anything to be concerned about.

You are right. Infant foreskins are often very long and he will grow into it. Nothing to worry about!

I have some similar condition except they are multiple and there is no redness, they run around the glan's backrim They are called pearly white papules and apparently being intact doubles the odds of getting them.

It is more than worth it though...

well today the redness is gone, as well as the white section so who knows!I'm going to continue insisting that they use my wipe solution at DC instead of commercial wipes. It has to feel better too, cus he let me touch as I was examining tonight!

Thanks for everyone's insights!

Virgin Mary on Foreskin?

OK, I know this is a serious question...but I couldn't help but chuckle at the 'title'.

My first thought was

"No way, an apparition of the virgin mary has now appeared on a foreskin??!!"

Then got me thinking that, ''hmmmmm, actually, that might help our cause!"

Well it would be a first: one of those things that would appear in no national newpaper.

OK it's back, this time with a hole (for lack of better term...opening) in the center. He says ouch when I touch his penis to get a better look. Yesterday he really wanted to go diaperless....DH is taking him to he ped tmrw. He's been running a fever with this as well. Could it be a boil?

I feel so badly for the little guy..... any thoughts?

Frank hasn't been back since his original reply.

But it bothers him.... he says ouch and no when I try to touch it and then covers it up with his own hand... it looks almost exaclty like the infant balanosposthitis picture that came up when I did a google searh

Oh dear... I think you might need to get him checked out in that case.
